Die direkte Wandlung von Sonnenlicht in elektrische Energie ist eine der aussichtsreichsten Moglichkeiten fur die nachhaltige Versorgung mit Elektroenergie. Kostengunstige Dunnschichtsolarzellen zahlen zu den vielversprechenden Kandidaten fur diese photovoltaische Energiewandlung. Diese Arbeit befasst sich mit optischen, strukturellen, morphologischen und elektrischen Eigenschaften dunner Schichten fur Solarzellen. Besondere Beachtung gilt den linearen optischen Eigenschaften im sichtbaren und den angrenzenden Spektralbereichen. Den Schwerpunkt bilden ellipsometrische und photometrische Untersuchungen dielektrischer Schichten (ZnO, beta-Ga_2O_3) sowie transparenter leitfahiger Oxide (ZnO: Ga, ZnO: Al), die unter Berucksichtigung der Defektdichte und exzitonischer Einflusse interpretiert werden. Verschiedene Praparationsverfahren wurden hinsichtlich der Eigenschaften der resultierenden dunnen Schichten untersucht -- insbesondere die RF-Magnetron-Sputterdeposition und das neue Verfahren Ion Layer Gas Reaction (ILGAR). Referenzspektren fur Sputter-ZnO mit einem bisher nicht erreichten Mass an Ubereinstimmung mit Einkristallspektren wurden ermittelt und analysiert. Hierauf basierend gelang die Interpretation der Eigenschaften von ILGAR-ZnO. Erstmalig wurden sehr exakte Spektren der Dispersion des Brechungsindex von ?-Ga2O3 durch simultane Modellierung verschieden dicker Schichten in Mehrprobenanalysen bestimmt. Fur die Modellierung von Heterostrukturspektren wurden daruber hinaus die dielektrischen Funktionen von mikrokristallinem Silicium (muc-Si: H) und von Metallschichten (Al, Ag) sowie deren Oxidationskinetik ermittelt. Ein weiteres wesentliches Resultat behandelt das Problem der auch als Light Trapping bekannten Absorptionserhohung in dunnen absorbierenden Schichten aufgrund von Lichteinfangstrukturen. Ein neues Verfahren, das deren experimentelle Charakterisierung deutlich vereinfacht, wird demonstriert und mit Simulationsrechungen verglichen
