Opinions of a Maverick Educator introduces a revolutionary teaching/learning approach that was discovered at a school where Lynn Stoddard was principal. Instead of trying to standardize and make students alike in knowledge and skills, parents and teachers unite to find and magnify positive differences. Subject matter content is used differently, not as a goal, but as a tool for teachers and parents working in partnership to help students grow in seven vital qualities or powers of greatness: identity, inquiry, interaction, initiative, imagination, intuition, and integrity.
This approach restores teaching as a profession where the role of curriculum is changed from being a boss to that of a servant of teachers and parents to help them unleash the amazing potential of each incredible student. Thousands of subjects are selected, as needed, to help students grow as unique individuals and aspire to become contributors, not burdens, to society.
This book is an elaboration and fine-tuning of the ideas and concepts that were first introduced in Educating for Human Greatness.
Opinions is a must-read for educators, administrators, parents, and even advanced students who feel limited or trapped by the current educational system and have a desire to make a change.
