La presente obra esta inspirada en los acontecimientos relacionados con el intento de secuestro del Vuelo 905, ocurrido en Cuba el domingo 27 de marzo de 1966. La version oficial se basa en un plan elaborado por Angel Maria Betancourt, ingeniero de vuelo, para llevarse un avion a los Estados Unidos con su familia entre los pasajeros. La realidad, dicen otros, es que Betancourt fue convencido por el aparato de Seguridad de que existia un plan donde todos en la cabina de mando estaban complotados para secuestrar la nave. Autor de numerosos planes similares, como se discute en una parte de este libro, no existen motivos para dudar de la participación del régimen castrista en esta aventura. He tratado de unir la version oficial, los testimonios opuestos de otras personas y las experiencias sobre estos eventos que adquiri en la epoca en que trabajaba para la Iglesia Catolica de Cuba durante gran parte de la decada de 1960. Hay que hacer notar que lo cierto, lo irrebatible, es que el montaje de la obra tragica ocurrio y existen hechos y testimonios para probarlo. Las contradicciones y el silencio guardado por el regimen facilita el uso de la ficcion para unir hechos incontrovertibles. Por eso hay una mezcla de ficcion y realidad que convierten este acontecer historico en una especie de novela de no-ficcion, genero literario que representa personajes historicos y eventos reales tejidos con conversaciones ficticias y el uso de las tecnicas de narracion de ficcion. He decidido conservar la mayoría de los nombres y/o apellidos de los principales protagonistas. Otros los he cambiado u omitido por diversas razones.
About the Author: José Álvarez (Antilla, Cuba, 1940). Realizó sus estudios de primaria en su pueblo natal, continuando interno en el Colegio De La Salle de Santiago de Cuba. Participó activamente en la lucha contra la dictadura de Fulgencio Batista militando en las files del Movimiento 26 de Julio. Asistió a la escuela de derecho de las Universidades de Oriente y La Habana pero no terminó esa carrera porque decidió marcharse del país. Después de un largo período de espera logró salir hacia los Estados Unidos en compañía de su esposa e hija en 1969. Obtuvo un Ph.D. en economía de alimentos y recursos en la Universidad de la Florida, donde realizó toda su carrera académica hasta su jubilación, cuando le fue conferido el título de profesor emérito. Fundó el proyecto Repensando la rebelión cubana de 1952-1959 con el objetivo de investigar la historia oculta o tergiversada de ese proceso y las acciones de la facción radical de Fidel Castro en su esfuerzo por conquistar y mantener el poder absoluto. Ha publicado dos docenas de libros, varios de los cuales han recibido premios nacionales e internacionales. Sus relatos y cuentos han sido incluidos en varias Antologías. Esta es su primer novela, basada en un hecho real. Reside en Wellington, Florida, con su esposa, hijos y nietos.
