Magisterarbeit aus dem Jahr 2007 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Neuere Deutsche Literatur, Note: 1,0, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Librettoforschung galt lange als ein Stiefkind der literatur- wie auch der musikwissenschaftlichen Forschung. Der Literaturwissenschaft erschien das Libretto oftmals als Dichtung niederen Ranges; die Musikwissenschaft konzentrierte sich eher auf musikologische Fragen der Oper. So ist es auch nicht verwunderlich, dass es nur relativ wenige Studien gibt, die sich mit dem Aspekt der Rezeption von Literatur durch Operntexte befassen. Dabei kann kein Zweifel daran bestehen, dass jeder Librettist, der auf eine Vorlage zurückgreift, nicht nur mit den Problemen der Gattungstransformation konfrontiert wird, sondern auch eine interpretatorische Haltung zu der Vorlage entwickeln muss. So bezieht jedes Libretto - und im Weiteren natürlich auch die musikalische Ebene der Oper - auf eine eigene Weise Stellung zu dem als Vorlage dienenden Werk und stellt somit einen Beitrag zur Rezeptionsgeschichte eines Werkes dar. In der Arbeit wird dieser Aspekt für die hoffmannsche Erzählkunst thematisiert, indem drei Opern untersucht werden, die auf Erzählungen E.T.A. Hoffmanns basieren. Dabei wird besonders der Frage nachgegangen, inwiefern die Opern eine individuelle Interpretation der jeweiligen Erzählung darstellen. Obwohl die im folgenden behandelten Opern "Les Contes d'Hoffmann" von Jacques Offenbach, "Die Brautwahl" von Ferruccio Busoni und "Cardillac" von Paul Hindemith in einem Zeitraum von nicht einmal 50 Jahren entstanden, unterscheiden sich die Herangehensweisen an die Überführung der jeweiligen Erzählung in ein Libretto grundlegend voneinander. In Einzelschritten werden die Libretti in chronologischer Reihenfolge diskutiert, ihre Bezüge und Unterschiede zu den jeweiligen Vorlagen analysiert und daraus resultierende Bedeutungsverschiebungen herausgearbeitet.
