When we don't hear about families, we tend to believe "That family was a good family." Few speak about their family, especially if it isn't going well.
In Once more... from the Beginning, all the doors and windows are thrown open for the whole world to look in. This non-fiction book brings most of what is known about this family from 1610 to the present, which is quite a lot.
We had two bad seasons. One generation derailed the next. Twenty-six (or more) were driven into the ditch by it. In turn, it brought considerable pain to most of the children and the adult lives to much derision and confusion. Literally, today's aging members saw it come back to high ground, not because of skill but naked determination. Yet, most of the credit for it must be given to our mother because she loved and believed much.
Families are like trees -their many branches spiraling outwardly in various directions, each one looking for the light and space to grow. Yet all the branches' roots are the same, with nourishment universal to all.
This book was written for the "branches" of our family with a three-fold purpose:
- To allow us to see and understand why and who we are because we can't know where we're going if we don't know from where we've come.
- To help us discover the greater sense of the purpose of our lives.
- To teach us that, without exception, we are all designed to honor our Creator.
The family is a microcosm of the creation. Here's hoping you have a good one and the heart to create one of your own when that time comes.
