About the Book

Jack is an ordinary human being experiencing the ups and downs of life. Does he live a fairytale, or reality of life - or is it the exciting mixture of it all? Jack's story begins in Russia, where his father and grandfather were from. Life moves on to America, the land of milk and honey; and Jack is born. He meets a lot of challenges, successes and failures, but he wants to be happy and satisfied and at times that is quite the task - but Jack is stubborn. Family is the utmost for him, as well as friends. He is very passionate about both, which of course can also cause pain and suffering, but also joy and happiness. Life has many challenges and how we deal with those challenges, determine the quality of the life we live - Jack is fully aware of that.(EXCERPT: ONCE IN A MILLION YEARS)Sara and Jack were side by side in the narrow French bed; she was on her back, Jack on his side facing her. She glowed as she always glowed after making love. It was the most beautiful she could be, he thought. When she was pregnant with Michael, Jasper and Caroline, she had also been utterly sexy and Jack had a hard time keeping his hands as well as his eyes off her. Sara had fully inhaled and appreciated all the additional attention and though she felt flabby, floppy and fat, and at times irritated and ornery, Jack's constant love had made her pregnancies bearable; actually a happier time than she had expected. Sara had closed her eyes, but he knew she was still awake. "George is dying." He said it quietly and soft."I know and I'm so sorry; so very sad for him and for you." Her right hand found his. "But you'll be okay, honey, just as you finally accepted that I died, you will also accept that your father will be gone.""It took me a while with you, Sara. I couldn't help it. I miss you so much and though I have been reborn and feel better, looking forward instead of back, I miss you so much." Tears found their way down the left side of Jack's face. She wiped them off tenderly. "And now my Father; he looks so sad and fragile and he used to be so strong minded and assertive - he has always been my role-model. Now he can barely smile without an effort; barely walk without pain. He wants to live, Sara, he doesn't want to die - not now." Jack's body started to shake from the emotions: "And I can't do anything for him, absolutely nothing, other than trying to act normal around him - he knows I'm trying hard, but he doesn't say anything.""He also knows you love him Jack and that you are here for him. That is important, very important and not only to your father, but also for you. Why do you think your father wanted you to come along? He loves you so much and he knew that the best gift you could give him and that he could give you was some weeks together in his most favorite spot here on earth; think about that.""You are right; I know you are right." He gave her a kiss and rolled unto his back and stared at the low ceiling. The darkness was soothing and the light breeze coming through the small window had the smells of soil and vineyards; the moisture in the air was brought in by the Mediterranean Ocean. He took a deep breath and rolled over on his side to embrace Sara, to give her a kiss goodnight and tell her that he loved her- but Sara had never been there.
