Jeder von uns hatte das Gluck, unterrichtet zu werden. Vieles - oder zumindest manches - von dem, was erkennbar ist, wurde von uns auch erlernt. Durch Lehren und Lernen ist unsere Welt konstituiert, so wie sie ist, oder wie sie zumindest fur uns ist. Was aber ist das eigentlich: Lehren und Lernen? Konnen die vielen padagogischen Einsichten und das Verhaltnis von Lehrer zu Schuler, mit dem wir alle in unserem Leben zu tun hatten oder noch haben, auch philosophisch aufgearbeitet werden? Thomas von Aquin (1225 - 1274) hat als einziger mittelalterlicher Autor eine 'Quaestio' uber den Lehrer geschrieben ('De magistro'). Darin und in weiteren Texten uber einen 'ordo addiscendi' - eine Ordnung des Lernens - expliziert er anhand philosophischer Mittel die Tatigkeiten des Lehrens und Lernens, auch auf dem Hintergrund der in seinem Jahrhundert entstehenden Universitaten. Die vorliegende Arbeit analysiert auf vier unterschiedlichen Ebenen - epistemisch, schopfungstheologisch, anthropologisch und sozial - das Verstandnis des Aquinaten hinsichtlich der Struktur und Genese des Lehrens und Lernens. Diese differenzierte Strukturierung eroffnet einen Einblick in die Wirkweise des menschlichen Geistes und exemplifiziert im Kern die wissenschaftstheoretische und anthropologische Konzeption des Aquinaten. Dabei wird der 'ordo addiscendi' in einer Eigenstandigkeit gegenuber der 'divisio philosophiae' als eine ausgezeichnete Weise menschlichen Tatigseins profiliert.
