Water molecules have both positive and negative poles. Those poles let the molecules form bonds between other polar molecules, reciprocally connecting positive and negative poles. Oil molecules are nonpolar; therefore, the charges are spread equally across the molecule. Thus, without a positive or negative pole, oil can never be bound to water. If you put oil and water in a container, the water molecules group separately from the oil molecules, forming two distinct groups.
This is spiritually like what happens with the Church and the world. They are to be separate. Christians find themselves in a world to which they do not belong and to which they cannot adhere. They belong to another world. They are citizens of heaven.
Confusion in the Church runs rampant today, resulting in double-mindedness. Churches and denominations are splitting and fading away because of disagreements about what constitutes sinful living and whether the Church should affirm sinful lifestyles. As a result, Christians are breaking away from the Church and having difficulty discerning right from wrong. Could it be that the Church has lost its way because it has ignored one of the preeminent principles of godly living, to remain separated from wickedness and unto God?
In the following pages of this writing-in the way of a 12-week biblical study-I will address the answer to precisely that question. I will explore the inherent make-up and mission of the body of Christ as it has been systemically laid out in God's holy Word, the Bible. Put another way, this book will explore the purpose of the Church, according to the Word of God, which relates inextricably to the mission and purpose of each genuine believer. The opening conversation introduces whether the Church should affirm same-sex marriage. While that hot-button issue is taken to task, it is not the book's only issue-or the primary focus. The primary issue being driven home is the rightful place of holiness over sinfulness in our lives, especially in the life of the Church. Therefore, the scope of this writing is against all sinfulness and for holiness to reign throughout every aspect of the believer's life.
What you will find here are biblical insights and principles that highlight how the Bible consistently continues spreading the message that God's people are to remain holy and separate from the world and sin. As the gospel truth of all this is unpacked and explored, some of it will shock you. Other parts of it will convict you. But, if you receive what is being taught here, you will find a renewed hope and zeal that overwhelms you and prompts you to become even more transformed into the likeness of Christ. It will take hold of you and will resonate in your heart and mind like never before.
