Die Lehrerin Julia, alleinerziehende Mutter zweier heranwachsender Söhne, reist von Hamburg mit ihrem altersschwachen Auto bis in die Camargue, nach Les-Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, um sich vom Alltagsstress zu erholen. Mit dabei sind, ausser den beiden Söhnen Alex und Julius, auch Julius' Freundin Aphrodite und Familienhund Bonnie, ein leicht neurotischer Irischer Setter. Die Vier geniessen ihren Urlaub, jeder nach seiner Façon: Während Alex erfolgreich Kontakt zur weiblichen Bevölkerung sucht, geniesst das junge Liebespaar seine Zweisamkeit. Julia, als leidenschaftliche Reiterin, durchstreift täglich die wilde Camargue-Landschaft auf dem Pferderücken. So lernt sie den wesentlich jüngeren, glutäugigen Rancher Serge kennen, in den sie sich, wider alle Vernunft, unsterblich verliebt. Es folgen Abende bei Zigeunermusik und romantische Picknicks am Strand. Leider muss Julia nur allzu bald entdecken, dass Serge nicht ehrlich zu ihr war... In ihrem Kummer unternimmt sie einen halsbrecherischen Ausritt und stürzt. Rettung naht in Gestalt des Tierarztes Joachim, den Julia tatsächlich aus Hamburg kennt und der ihr bisher immer höchst unsympathisch war. In den folgenden Tagen lernt Julia den hilfsbereiten Joachim jedoch von einer ganz anderen Seite kennen und -schätzen. Aber ist er wirklich frei? Bei einem Zusammentreffen im Café mit Serge, der Julia nicht aufgeben will, kommt es fast zu einer Schlägerei zwischen Serge und Joachim. Als, just in diesem Moment, auch noch Julias Exmann Hanno im Ferienort auftaucht, ist die Verwirrung komplett. Am Ende muss Julia sich tatsächlich zwischen den drei sehr unterschiedlichen Bewerbern entscheiden...
About the Author: Stefanie Carstens wurde 1954 in München geboren und wuchs in Hamburg und Ahrensburg auf. Als Einzelkind verbrachte sie ihre glückliche Kindheit viel in der Natur in Gesellschaft ihrer Hunde und ihres Ponys. Schon als Schülerin schrieb Stefanie gern eigene Texte und verschlang dicke (meist historische) Wälzer. Sie interessierte sich zudem brennend für andere Kulturen. Nach dem Abitur studierte sie in München, Hamburg und Paris Romanistik und Anglistik und erwarb anschliessend in Zürich das Übersetzerdiplom. Später arbeitete sie als Sprachlehrerin und freie Übersetzerin in der Schweiz. Leidenschaftlich gern unternahm sie Reisen, meist in den Mittelmeerraum, mit Vorliebe nach Südfrankreich. Während dieser Zeit sammelte sie so viele Erfahrungen und Eindrücke, dass der Wunsch, einen Roman zu verfassen, stetig wuchs. Eine weitere Inspirationsquelle schöpfte sie aus ihrem eigenen Familienleben. Bei drei Söhnen und wechselnden Hunden und anderen Tieren gab es immer wieder lustige und auch spannende Situationen und Episoden, die in leicht veränderter Form in das vorliegende Buch einflossen. Stefanie Carstens lebt auch heute noch in einem Dorf in der Nähe von Zürich in der Schweiz.
