O Rio Trairí Remoía Sertão é romance escrito que pertence à escola do neorrealismo, à vertente do regionalismo sertanejo. Com apresentação do intelectual, advogado, professor universitário de Direito e escritor David de Medeiros Leite, a obra narra um rincão do nordeste brasileiro com linha temporal entre as décadas de 1960 e 1980; espaço, ficticiamente, chamado de Cachoeirinhas, de Sítio Riacho do Feijão. O romance narra fatores sociais tipicamente brasileiros como: miséria, pobreza, fome, desamparo social, inflação, soberba de políticos e donos de fazendas, desesperança e ditaduras governamentais - algo a retratar em parte períodos vividos em vários capítulos da História do Brasil. Ao mesmo tempo, a obra dá lugar à suavidade do companheirismo, da poesia, da apreciação da culinária sertaneja, das paisagens belas da natureza agreste, da vivência em um lugar tradicional com fortes traços de uma comunidade hospitaleira e fraterna. O romance é escrito em terceira pessoa por um narrador-personagem chamado Mário, mas que se permitem as vozes de outros personagens no decorrer dos fatos e situações - daí a narrativa ser multifacetada e instigante ao leitor. Quanto ao gênero do romance, segue-se a linha de grupos de escritores que analisam as estruturas das realidades urbana e rural, ou seja, o conflito do homem com o meio geográfico e socioeconômico, além de trazer assuntos clássicos da literatura nacional como: coronelismo, êxodo rural, seca, elitismo, corrupção nos governos, bandidismo, autoritarismo governamental, populismo. Diferenciando-se um pouco dos romances já publicados nesse gênero, ares atuais são introduzidos, quando, por exemplos, apresenta-se o dilema da seca como consequência do desmatamento e outras atividades que destroem o meio ambiente; relatam-se questões como homofobia, xenofobia, disputas ideológicas políticas da Direita versus Esquerda nas escolas, proselitismo partidário nas repartições públicas, fobias políticas, falso moralismo, etc. Ainda, quanto à forma de escrita, tem-se a linguagem coloquial de narrativa oral a partir do narrador-personagem, cuja variante linguística segue a forma marcante em livros que falam do sertão, de figuras comuns do povo. Também, é o primeiro livro solo de Diego Rocha que traz sua identidade poética e intelectual a um só tempo, além de crítica às utopias sociais e governamentais em um Estado fictício à brasileira, entrelaçado em contradições, provincialismo, autoritarismo, antissemitismo, racismo e segregacionismo, aos quais líderes de sociedade desprezam seu povo, sua cultura, sua natureza, em aversão às raízes e frutos do sertão. Quanto ao protagonista Mário, tem-se que este se assemelha à concepção do anti-herói (herói moderno), vestido pela malandragem, esperteza, "jeitinho brasileiro", a fim de burlar as regras da lei e sobreviver em meio aos desafios e dificuldades da vida. A lição da obra é que o verdadeiro herói é aquele homem simples e humilde que luta pelo amor, pela consciência coletiva, pela paz social, pela preservação da natureza - já, o coronel, o intelectual arrogante, o líder político persuasor e populista, o comerciante oportunista, o militar autoritário são achincalhados. Há inúmeros personagens que são tipos sociais da realidade dos espaços urbano e rural, tais como a prostituta, a beata, o sem-terra, o mendigo, o padre, o prefeito, o juiz, o delegado, o agiota, etc. Eles representam os deslocados, os excluídos e os exaltados no contexto social; têm final trágico e feliz, são presos, mortos, cometem suicídio, vivem em luxos. Ainda, ao misticismo presente na obra, locais fantasmagóricos (castelo em serra da Tapuia), capetas e lendas populares também dão um ar de mistério e curiosidade ao leitor. A última cena narra uma enchente que põe fim a quinze anos de seca na cidade de Cachoeirinhas, quando o rio Trairí, bastante caudaloso, faz um açude estourar,
