A saga de Pedro Duarte Xavier, Velho Corso, Allaji e Indira continua em Goa. Tão logo lá desembarcaram o velho nobre de altos escalões da corte do grão-mogol Aurangzeb, cujo nome era Raya Bergala, sultão da região do rio Krishna, um dos conselheiros do grão-mogol Aurangzeb, a quem Allaji foi prometida para casamento, solicitou às autoridades portuguesas a sua captura. E assim foi feito. Apesar dos esforços de Duarte Xavier e Velho Corso, Allaji e Indira foram presas e levadas ao palácio de Masulipatam, no litoral da Índia Oriental. Nada mais podendo fazer naquele momento para salvá-las, Duarte Xavier e Velho Corso só conseguiram subir a bordo da embarcação São Inácio e partir para Macau.Em Macau, Duarte Xavier e Velho Corso conheceram o soldado africano chamado Francisco de Tombua e Kai-Sheng, sobrinha de um importante comerciante chinês, Chen Tai Jin, e amante do português João Vaz. Este último concordou vender sua chalupa semidestruída, depois de colisão com outra embarcação, por apenas 500.000 réis, desde que se responsabilizasse pelo sustento de Kai-Sheng, permitindo assim que ele regressasse para o seio de sua família legítima em Lisboa.Para levantar recursos que permitissem reformar a chalupa recém adquirida e viabilizar uma viagem para Índia, a fim de resgatar Allaji e Indira, Duarte Xavier aceitou ser capitão da embarcação de Chen Tai Jin, fazendo algumas viagens nessa condição, inclusive à Nagasaki, no Japão, quando teve de enfrentar piratas de Formosa. Enquanto isto Velho Corso foi administrando a reforma da chalupa. O entrosamento foi grande naquela parceria, Kai-Sheng tornou-se amante de Velho Corso e Chen Tai Jin, sócio dele e de Duarte Xavier.Já em condições de navegar, a chalupa Algarve, com tripulação mista composta pelos chineses do junco de Chen Tai Jin, e pelos indianos de Maharatas contratados em Macau, navegou para Índia, passando primeiro pelo Ceilão. Na chalupa também iam Tombua e Kai-Sheng.Ao chegar ao porto de Masulipatam descobriram que Raya Bergala, Allaji e Indira não estavam no seu palácio ali construído. Tiveram que dar à vela para o local onde era o cativeiro delas. Com ajuda dos indianos de Maharatas conseguiram por gente de confiança dentro do palácio, entrar em contato com Allaji e elaborar um plano de fuga.No dia combinado, Allaji e Indira conseguiram chegar a um jardim interior perto dos muros do palácio e, com ajuda de Duarte Xavier, Velho Corso e os indianos de Maharatas, finalmente escalá-los. A fuga pelo trecho de terra até o mar foi feita sob a perseguição implacável dos guardas de Raya Bergala, na qual o líder dos indianos foi ferido. Já na praia, descobrindo a sua ausência, Duarte Xavier voltou para salvá-lo e o fez debaixo de uma chuva de balas. Somente conseguiu escapar com a cobertura de Tombua e Velho Corso. Embarcaram na chalupa com a praia repleta de gente armada. Mas tiros dos canhões de bordo mantiveram todos por lá e a embarcação, com as velas enfunadas, regressou para Macau, nova pátria Duarte Xavier, Velho Corso, Allaji e Indira.
