O tenente Strogoff ja havia passado por um acidente semelhante, la pelos lados do Himalaia e, havia experimentado carne de seu proprio amigo o qual morre naquele desastre, tambem aereo, mas essa e outra historia. Elifaz, tendo de manter uma posicao de guru, persevera-se em profunda meditacao, hibernado a urso polar, porem, assiste as atitudes de seus comandantes, ja que nao passa de uma crianca estranha no ninho de oficiais russos. Strogoff logo apos o incidente aereo, nao titubeia e, na calada da noite solapa um naco de carne de seu capitao com o qual nao tem a menor simpatia pessoal. Os dias passam rapidamente em pleno sofrimento. Num dado momento, Dimitri paira sobre os dois cadaveres e, nota algo estranho nas nadegas de um deles e, incontinentemente constata o estrago feito no local que ja fora abundante. Calmamente reune a todos e pergunta sobre aquela ocorrencia, e Strogoff e conciso ao confirmar o seu feito. Dimitri, muito irrequieto lhe diz com autoridade russa: - Vou puni-lo por tamanha heresia e desrespeito humano! Responde-lhe o tenente: - Coronel, com todo o respeito, deixe para me punir daqui a uma semana apenas, e aceitarei a punicao sem a menor resistencia. Dimitri da um passo para tras, cabisbaixo, pensa: - Sera que e o que estou pensando? E assim foi, naquela mesma semana, aquele corpo fica pela metade. Tentam de tudo para Elifaz participar do ritual, e recebem um exemplo mar-cante do jovem guru. Elifaz limita-se a comer serenamente um pedaco daquela carne e deixa claro que, nao necessita de quase nada para aquela sobrevivencia, ja que nao despende de tanta energia psicossomatica, como estao dispendendo aqueles soldados, movidos pela preocupacao e medo. Dimitri fica intrigado pela colocacao de Elifaz arguindo-o: - Elifaz, se voce realmente nao tem necessidade de se alimentar, por que entao nao dispensou o pedaco daquela carne? - Simplesmente para nao ser a causa perturbadora de suas mentes. Ou seja, ninguem fica de fora da conivencia. O que seria mais dificil para todos. Aquele corpo ja estava fadado a alimentar outro ser qualquer, ja po da terra, muito embora, congelado pela natureza. Mais alguns dias, um helicoptero segue a mesma rota do acidente, resgatando a todos os sobreviventes. Siberia Costume bem diferente a Elifaz, um povo extremamente machista, mas para quem sai de um clima islamico nao faz muita diferenca. O clima extremamente radical, verao 40 acima de 0 e no verao 40 abaixo de 0. O idioma, complicado. Religiao predominante e o budismo, com a qual Elifaz se identifica. Um dos costumes interessantes e tomar sauna a alta temperatura e na se-quencia saltar ao frio de 40 negativos, abrindo os poros, revitalizando a pele e a saude como um todo, criando anticorpos contra as enfermidades. Lembrancas historicas, revolucoes comunistas fazem parte do ensino popular, o sacrificio do povo siberiano e algo inusitado.
