About the Book

A Different Timeline...An Unimaginable Future. The American Civil War ended in the death of a nation. With the surrender of the United States, the Confederate States of America went on to become the global mega power and eventually assumed control over the entire planet.History hinges upon moments, critical forks in the road where one small action can change the course of human reality. If a few of those moments in the past had been different, what would the future look like? A few, seemingly inconsequential choices made by a handful of people have created an alternate history of an all-Confederate Earth. With no place left on Earth to hide from the Confederacy, it was inevitable that African slaves would eventually look to the stars to escape. In the year 2165, under the cover of a global slave rebellion, one and a half million slaves did precisely that. Using the insurrection to hide both their escape and their path, they set up their own society far, far away.Roscoe Brown and Willa Chappell are born some 400 years after the settlement of the Nubian Star Nation, on a planet named the Liberated States of America. Their society is a utopia, but will it survive? One thing is certain. Unless Earth has overthrown the Confederacy since their departure, every Nubian citizen knows there is a very real possibility that one day they may have to face the Confederate States of America again.
About the Author: Robert Howard has a Bachelor's Degree in General Science from Morehouse College, a Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, a Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering with a focus in Human Factors from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, and a Doctorate in Aerospace Engineering with a focus in spacecraft systems from the University of Tennessee Space Institute. He also holds a certificate in Human Systems Integration from the Naval Postgraduate School and has completed the NASA Space Systems Engineering Development Program. He has worked in the US space industry for over fifteen years. His fondness for space began in early childhood growing up in Greensboro, North Carolina, and was further enhanced upon meeting Black astronaut Dr. Ronald McNair several years before McNair perished aboard the ill-fated Challenger space shuttle in 1986. Following in the footsteps of his late mentor, Robert now lives and works in Houston, Texas. Outside of his professional career, Robert volunteers extensively with the National Society of Black Engineers, seeking to serve as a mentor and champion to others. Writing science fiction has been a private hobby for most of his life, and Nubian Star Nation is his first novel to be released to the public. Robert is particularly excited to blend science fiction with Black history and culture in this novel.
