L'ile Notre - Dame servait quelquefois de theatre a de grandes cérémonies religieuses et civiles. Ainsi en 1515, lorsque le roi Philippe - le - Bel donna de brillantes fètes pour la promotion de son fils le roi de Navarre au grade de chevalier, c'est dans l'île notre-dame qu'elles eu rent lieu. Cet emplacement était fort commode pour des réjouissances publiques. Une ceinture de peupliers en tourait cette île dont le sol n'était qu'un gravier uni. Dans la circonstance dont nous parlons Edouard Il roi d'angleterre, gendre de Philippe S y trouva avec son beau-père et son beau - frère. Les trois rois et plu sieurs grands seigneurs de leur cour reçurent la croix des mains du légal du pape quoiqu'il n'y eût chez eux ni projet ni désir de commencer une nouvelle croisade. Un des plus estimés historiographes descripteurs de Paris ayant dit que le cardinal Nicolas légat du Saint Siége en France avait présidé a cette cérémonie reli 1- gieuse tous les faiseurs de livres tels que le Mémorial parisien, par Dee/ey, le Guide des étrangers à Paris, etc., etc., ont répété le mème anachronisme. Un mot suffira. Nicolas de Casa naquit en 1401 'a Casa village situé sur la Moselle diocèse de Trèves et ne fut légat en France qu'au milieu du quinzième siècle. Il aurait donc assisté à cette grande solennité de l'île Notre - Dame cent cinquante ans a peu près avant cette époque, et près d'un siècle avant sa naissance.
