About the Book

A land where old folks are thrown away. Lavelle Rook sets a secret camera up in the room of an elderly patient at the local nursing home. Someone is stealing the residents belongings. A recent Vietnam Veteran, Lavelle is shocked by the audacious behavior of some and humbled by the examples of loves enduring power that extends beyond the murky depths of deaths final grip. A small piercing light. Emma's father is away in Europe fighting the Nazis'. From the time he leaves and later as a teen her world is rocked by tragedies that she does not understand as a christian. Go with Emma as she searches for a reason until the day she finds it in a small piercing light. Beauty can't be anything but good. Jesse Warren discovers a beautiful princess of the backwoods and believes without a doubt she loves him with the same passion that he adores her with. He is unaware that beauty is its own reward and often does as it pleases to his disappointment. Calloused Heart. Ernie's father was an alcoholic who argued with his mother any time he was in the house. He was upset about the arguing but kept quiet about it until one day he saw his father hit his mother in the face with his fist. Things changed then. Ernie took his mothers side and a cloudy veil of hurt enveloped the hearts of those who lived in the weather beaten little house in the piney woods. Nothing is hardly ever like it seems. Delmus Dukes a recent high school graduate has come into town to look for a job. The bug man the local exterminator took him on because he was audacious, ambitious and acted on the whole as if anything worth knowing he knew it. The bug man Verne Hires was of creek Indian descent and serious as a hangover. The opposite personalities clash yet the two men need each other and from that comes a respect that endures then overcomes. The long way home. James Clarke became a one trip moonshine runne er because of necessity during the depression. James recently married thought he moved far enough away from the Okefenokee swamp and his moonshine business kin folk that he was safe from the temptations of easy money. But he was wrong. The depression got him by the throat. Caught in the woods seventy miles from home he discovers the many drama's that played out during two days and three nights of desperate running along a local river and creek to get home. The three old cheerleaders. Three cheerleaders from high school days met at the local Walmart store to catch up on matters of life that happened to them in the last few years. Their individual lives had taken on character changes that each of them thought peculiar. Yet some things did not change. Velvet blue dawn. Verlon Moore an electrical technician received a call late one night from a deep pot shocked voice to come fix his television. The late night service call was to be rewarded with a thousand dollars in cash. The callers house was clear on the other side of the Okefenokee Swamp in north east Florida as far as one could get from civilization. Verlon needed the money so throwing caution aside he went to the strangest outside of the normal pot house one could imagine. Two screws not tight enough fixed the problem on the tv. The real problem was the beautiful tempting girlfriend of the pot runner sitting on the couch.
