Länder - Mittelalter, Frühe Neuzeit, Note: 2,0, Leuphana Universität Lüneburg, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Leben zu schenken und Kinder zu gebären - man kann es als das Schicksal der Frau bezeichnen. Es ist der wohl wesentlichste und offensichtlichste Unterschied zwischen Mann und Frau. Doch das heute oft gewünschte Ereignis und das freudige Entgegensehen des Zeitpunktes der Geburt waren nicht immer Bestandteil auf dem Weg zur Entstehung neuen Lebens. In dieser Arbeit, die den Titel "Die Not der Weiber - Gebären als Schicksal" trägt, soll untersucht werden, was die Geburt eines Kindes für eine Frau in der frühen Neuzeit bedeutete und wie die Rolle der Frau bei der Geburt von der Gesellschaft gesehen wurde. Dazu soll zunächst auf die Empfindungswelt rund um die Geburt auf physischer Ebene eingegangen werden, indem die Risiken von Krankheit, Schmerz und Tod beleuchtet werden, um dann auch auf die psychische Ebene eingehen zu können. Im Weiteren dann, die Sicht der Gesellschaft auf die Frau geschildert und die Wertung der Rolle der Frau und der Geburt ergründet werden. Abschließend soll der Zusammenhang von Geburt, Gesellschaft und Empfindung der Frau geklärt werden. Edward Shorters "Der weibliche Körper als Schicksal" dient dabei haupt-sächlich zum Erkennen von Risiken bei der Geburt. Um die weibliche Empfindungswelt und die Betrachtungen der Gesellschaft zu untersuchen sind vor allem Eva Labouvies "Andere Umstände" und "Rituale der Geburt" von Jürgen Schlumbohm, Barbara Duden und Jacques Gelis von zentraler Bedeutung.
