The transcribing of Norfolk Gravestone Inscriptions was a long and sometimes challenging experience but David Bird has had this overwhelming passion to get as many of these written down as soon as possible. Over the last few years he has noticed that these wonderful old relics of the past are deteriorating at an alarming rate, their writings will soon be lost forever due to the weathering of the stonework. We must protect and respect these wonderful pieces of ancient history and hope that others who come after us will do the same.
In this volume you will find the following churches: - Bircham Newton, Burnham Overy, Burnham Sutton cum Ulph, Burnham Thorpe, Gt Snoring, Lt Snoring, North Creake, Sculthorpe, South Creake, Tattersett.
Among these memorials, epitaphs or tombstones as they are sometimes called there are some beautiful words of comfort, verses of poetry, and even some that are funny. These wonderful epitaphs are an important part of our family history, they have sometimes been used in breaking down brick walls for family historians. There are over 640 surnames/inscriptions inside this volume and has taken me hundreds of hours to compile. If you have purchased a copy of his book and you require a digital image of your ancestors gravestone he can supply a digital image for a small fee.
Here are a few of the surnames that you'll find within this book: -
