About the Book

Nonsynch is a handbook/workbook designed to help people with 'people problems' in their workplace. Difficult people are those who negatively impact the office atmosphere and work quality of others in the office, department, school, factory, classroom. We all spend too much time in a professional work setting to live miserably for 8 hours a day or more for many years, because of one or two people who really are difficult to work with and can't be worked around. This is a handbook of concrete information on what these people look like (how do you identify the truly 'difficult person' and not just someone having the occasional bad day)and how they typically behave in an office setting. It is not a scholarly treatise on people with emotional problems and how physicians would treat them. It is actually a workbook, with spaces for the reader to complete to help think about how to respond to difficult people. The point of the workspaces is to get the reader to think about what they are facing before tackling a difficult person, or reacting badly to a difficult boss or coworker, and possibly paying the ultimate consequence of losing a job! Each chapter focuses on one major type of difficult person, offers concrete suggestions for what normal people can do to interact pleasantly, or at least not negatively, with these people, and workspaces for making concrete, doable plans for the next encounter with a difficult person. This handbook doesn't just tell the reader to 'get a plan.' It helps the reader to think through the problem, design the plan, and then offers suggestions on how to carry out that plan successfully.
About the Author: Bonnie (Kathy) Tuten has been an educator for more than four decades. She has taught at all levels of the education spectrum, including at the state and national levels. She has conducted seminars with a wide variety of adults on such wide ranging topics as interpreting and using their school or school system data to improve instruction, to what happens when all their leadership training just doesn't work, how the local school board can do successful long term planning, to how to write successful grant proposals. Through it all, her most requested seminars have continued to be how to cope with difficult people in an office setting, an especially important skill to practice in these times of shrinking job markets and job pools. Kathy has a B.A. in English Education from Pennsylvania State University, an M.Ed. in Education from the University of North Carolina, Curriculum Specialist Certification, Supervision Certification, and Advanced Administrative Certification, all from the University of North Carolina.
