About the Author: Dr. Valery A. Gaiko graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, Belarusian State University, with honors (1982). He then completed a postgraduate course at the Institute of Mathematics, National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (1986) and a postdoctoral course at Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics (1999). From 1987 to 2008, he held various positions at the Department of Mathematics, BSUIR (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Postdoctoral Fellow), and since 2009, he has been a Leading Researcher at the UIIP NAS Belarus.
A world expert on qualitative theory of differential equations and bifurcation theory of dynamical systems, he has developed the global bifurcation theory of planar polynomial dynamical systems and has greatly contributed to the solution of Hilbert's Sixteenth Problem for quadratic systems and Smale's Thirteenth Problem for Liénard polynomial systems. He is currently working on the qualitative analysis of 2D and 3D biomedical and ecological dynamical systems.
Dr. Gaiko's 300 publications include 2 books and over 100 research papers in international journals, such as Nonlinear Analysis, Differential Equations and Dynamical Systems; International Journal of Dynamical Systems and Differential Equations; International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos; Journal of Mathematical Sciences; Applied Mathematics Letters; Advances in Dynamical Systems and Applications; and Nonlinear Phenomena in Complex Systems. He has also given over 300 talks at mathematical conferences, congresses, and special seminars on the theory of differential equations and dynamical systems at leading international centers in Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, India, Italy, Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, USA, and CIS countries.
