About the Book

Poems. This collection of fifty-three poems explores eternal themes of redemption, creation, relationship, wisdom, and the conundrums of faith. From desert places to night-draped sky, from macro to micro-cosmos, from incarnation to cross to throne and the edge of wonder; you'll journey with the early Judeo-Christian patriarchs to victims of the last century's genocide; some verses may awaken your own unspoken yearnings as you read of longing for God and his unmerited love for humans. Most of all the contemplative reader will find here fresh reflections to stir up awe and curiosity. You are invited now to enter the Land Called God, to be still and to know that He is God.
About the Author: Strictly speaking, the word "nomad" in the title is a traveler without a fixed residence in search of food and safe pasture. In many ways, Chris Pesek might be called a nomad herself. Her ancestral roots were transplanted from Europe to American soil when her father made the trip from Poland to the United States at the age of 12. Chris spent her early years in Ohio, Kansas and Indiana. Her small liberal arts college in Pennsylvania offered, upon graduating, a study abroad year in Poland. This location served as a springboard to adventures in the surrounding Cold War region. Along with her husband, a fellow nomad, Chris taught English for a year in the Iran of Shah Reza Pahlavi. A return to the U.S. was necessary when the revolution began. While raising two daughters, Chris and her husband enjoyed careers in ESL, international education, and student services. Work and pleasure took Chris to four continents. Most recently, they spent 3 years of retirement in Costa Rica. They now live near Toledo, Ohio. Chris began to write poetry in the spring of 2004. She had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1998. Her work as a poet coincided with the start of a new drug treatment. Some years later she discovered that a similar birth of creativity took place in the lives of other Parkinson's patients when they were treated with similar medications. Chris has had poems published twice in "Lyrical Iowa," the annual anthology of the Iowa Poetry Association. She won honorable mention in "Time of Singing: A Magazine of Christian Poetry." In addition, "War Cry," a monthly magazine of the Salvation Army, accepted a meditation for publication. This collection of poems is her first of book-length.
