Electrical outlets are usually installed at or near
a child's eye level, and children's curiosity can
draw them to explore. An electrical socket at
my grandmother's house was looking at me once,
and it was so inviting. I was only 4 year old. It must
have been God's will to save me! This vivid
memory of hard-to-resist temptation to put something
like a match inside of it follows me to this day,
and as a grown-up, I decided to write a book about
it. What stopped me that day from sticking a match
in? I heard my mom's voice in my head, telling me
that this would be very dangerous. Each day, seven
children are treated in hospital emergency rooms
for electrical shock or burn injuries caused by
tampering with a wall outlet, according to Electrical
Safety Foundation International (ESFI) reports. I
wrote this book in hopes that the story, when read
and discussed with their parents, stays on children's
minds just like my mom's voice did on that day.
