About the Book

There is a fine line between sanity and madness... When five-year-old Viktor Szabo flees the havoc wreaked upon his beloved Hungary by the Nazis, his father vows that his son will no longer have to suffer the cruel cycle of Fascism and Communism which has visited his homeland for decades. But his father's promise cannot shield Viktor from the mind-bending ravages of a visitor that comes to him in the night...plunging him into a maelstrom of doubt about everything he has ever believed. The author says, ""When I was just a kid, I remember giving some thought to the possibility that maybe things only existed in our minds," recalls the author. "Then not long ago, I discovered that the concept had been discussed and debated by ancient philosophers centuries before the birth of Christ, and the "philosophy" even has a name. Although I personally don't subscribe to the belief, it makes a fascinating premise for a story about a person that might." Journey with Viktor to America, and watch him blossom into adulthood. Marvel at his innate interpretive understanding of great works of poetry, and celebrate his venture into all night talk radio. Then be prepared to follow him as he walks that narrow line between sanity and madness, and the perilous abyss that awaits. Will he find that his life was nothing more than just a dream? Or will he learn that his mind is the biggest lie of all?
About the Author: Other than writing numerous articles for magazines and periodicals on the topic of boating safety, Robert N. Story didn't begin writing fictional novels until much later in life. He is a mid-westerner, and a retired business executive, and in the late '50's, played drums in a recording rock band which was later inducted into the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His band appeared with such notables of the time as Bobby Darin, Duane Eddy, the Champs, Dion and the Belmonts, and many others. The author was also a radio announcer at a small station in Eastern Iowa in the early '60's, providing him the inspiration for his first novel, "KABA 1330," a fictional account of a nineteen-year-old disk jockey who strived to balance his life between his uncompromising love for his childhood sweetheart, Barbara Ann Walcott, and his equally embedded love for the radio business. In his latest novel, the dark and compelling "The Night Poet," Story takes advantage of the fascinating philosophical malady of 'solipsism, ' and uses it as a premise to weave the fictional account of one man's struggle to walk the thin line between sanity and madness. "Writing a good book is as close as a man can get to having a baby," says Story. "Undoubtedly less painful overall, but creative nevertheless."
