La figura del héroe, exaltada en la metafísica del arte de El nacimiento de la tragedia, "se congela" a partir de Humano demasiado humano, junto a las figuras del genio y del santo. Con esta inflexión central del pensamiento de Nietzsche contrasta significativamente la figura consolidada del mito heroico que ha caracterizado repetidamente la recepción e incluso el culto del filósofo. El tema del heroísmo se presenta, en todo caso, como término de confrontación continua y central que permite al filósofo diferenciar la propia posición de las múltiples "morales heroicas" de la época ( de Carlyle a Gobineau, de Wagner a Baudelaire ). La primera parte de este trabajo recorre el tema del heroísmo en Nietzsche identificando -hasta el momento de la crítica radical- los cambios significativos: la filosofía del espíritu libre disuelve, junto con las certezas metafísicas, toda propensión a una moral heroica que puede llegar al extremo del ascético sacrificio de sí. La segunda parte está dedicada a la compleja figura de Sócrates, "héroe" de la decadencia cuya opción de muerte revela el verdadero sentido de su filosofía. La tercera parte analiza la lucha de Nietzsche en contra de las "sombras de Dios" que ofuscan el horizonte, las diversas figuras y actitudes que produce el gran evento de la muerte de Dios. El "hombre superior" de la cuarta parte de Así habló Zarathustra posee las características del heroísmo: de la lucha en contra del movimiento de empequeñecimiento que lleva al dominio del "último hombre", a la necesidad del propio ocaso para el surgir de una forma de existencia ligada a nuevos valores.

GIULIANO CAMPIONI (Pescia 1945) Egresado de la Sczmla Norma/e Superiore de Pisa, se laureó en filosofía en la Universidad de Pisa, en donde se desempeñó como docente de Historia de la filosofía de la Universidad de Lecce hasta su jubilación en 2012 y como Presidente del Doctorado en Disciplinas filosóficas. Fundador y director del Centro interuniversitario "Colli-Montinari" de investigación sobre Nietzsche y la cultura europea, consagrado a la promoción de la investigación filológica, histórica, bibliográfica y teórica sobre Nietzsche. Su extensa labor de investigador ha reconstruido, a partir del estudio de las fuentes, el contexto histórico y la empresa cultural y filosófica de Nietzsche. Discípulo y colaborador de Mazzino Montinari hasta su muerte, continuó la tarea de la Edición Crítica, teniendo bajo su responsabilidad el cuidado de la edición italiana Colli-Montinari de las Obras de Nietzsche, el Epistolario ( Adelphi, Milano) y la nueva edición de los Fragmentos póstumos (1869-1889). Coordinó el proyecto del Catálogo de la Biblioteca personal de Nietzsche (Walter de Gruyter, Berlín 2003).
