About the Book

This book is the first of a trilogy, set in the year 2015 about a government cover-up of an impending worldwide disaster. By the end of the book the reader will come to realize that something more insidious was underway. It will prompt the reader to consider the following: What if the unthinkable were about to happen, which should you fear more the upcoming apocalypse, or your government's efforts to keep you from finding out too soon? If the end was near for all mankind who would you trust to tell you the truth? If you knew there was a chance to survive an apocalypse, who would you want to survive with you and would it be your decision to make? If the government has a secret list of ideal survivors of a potential cataclysmic incident, who made those decisions and who is on the list? If humans have a chance to survive the coming event can they survive the inhumanity of man? Alex hanken is to become the most important man in US history...but there are those who will come to fear him more than the coming apocalypse! Fear...Distrust...Deceit...a relentless killer Courage...Perseverance...Patriotism..an American hero. All come together in this book about a people, a way of life, facing the unthinkable...the end of man.
About the Author: R.D. Pittman grew up in small town Texas. And as a youth the weekly trips to the town square would afford him the opportunity to sit in and listen to the old men spin their tales of hunting and fishing. On occasions a story of a horse thief, or a Texas ranger, a harrowing experience crossing the plains with hostile indians in pursuit fascinated him. It wasn't just the story itself it was the art of storytelling that caught his imaginative mind. A pause, then a spit of tobacco to emphasize a point, or raise an eyebrow to indicate skepticism, dropping ones' head and lowering the tone of voice to reflect sorrow or regret. Rick's mother always said he had such an active imagination as a child, she was surprised he could sit still for fear he would miss something. As all children must do, with regrets to Peter Pan, he had to grow up. Having excelled as a high school football player, which in small town Texas is tantamount to sainthood, his whole world changed when his father took a job in St. Louis, Missouri and moved the family there during Rick's freshment year in high school. Initially culture shock set in as he had never seen so many people in one place at the same time. However, it opened his eyes to a whole new world of different cultures and beliefs. There was more than just Baptists and Methodists, and there were people of color. Instead of longing for his birthplace, he embraced the changes that were taking place in his life. He made a promise to himself to experience this new world for all it had to offer. After a tour in the Air Force and not wanting to starve, he obtained a degree in accounting and finance from the University of Missouri. He spent the next thirty years in investments and banking. Rick has traveled extesively around the world, fulfilling that promise he made to himself in high school. Then in the summer of 2008 he did what he had secretly wanted to do from his childhood, he wrote his first book and spent the next three years revising it...Rick is a storyteller. Enjoy his stories...he does.
