About the Book
Tropical neurology is no longer limited to the developing countries of tropics. The world has become a global village and neurological disorders of tropics are very often seen in the temperate zones of the West. The first edition of Neurology in Tropics was published in 1999 and has become a standard reference work. It received glowing reviews from the major national and international journals. There has been remarkable advancement in the field since then, and the second edition has been fully revised, with 24 new chapters. In this edition, 146 leading experts from 23 countries have contributed the sections on CNS Infections, Nutritional Disorders and Neurotoxicology, Neuromuscular Diseases, Cerebrovascular Diseases, Epilepsy, Demyelination, Degeneration, and Miscellaneous Disorders. This book brings in a wealth of knowledge to readers all over the world, be it academic neurologists, practicing neurologists, general physicians, or residents. About the Author
Jagjit S. Chopra, DCH, FRCPE, PhD, FAMS, FIAN
Prof. Jagjit S. Chopra is currently Professor Emeritus PGIMER and National Academy of Medical Sciences. He completed his medical graduation from Govt. Medical College, Patiala, Punjab, India, and received Neurology training from Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast, Northern Ireland; fellowship from Royal College of Physicians Edinburg; and doctorate from Queens University, Belfast, UK. He joined the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, India, as Chief of Neurology unit in 1968.
He has received large number of national and international awards, orations, and visiting professorships, including the prestigious B.C. Roy National Award and Padma Bhushan—one of the highest civilian awards, awarded by the President of India (2008). He has been Editor in Chief of Neurology India, a journal of Neurological Society of India, and World Neurology (10 years), a publication of World Federation of Neurology. He has been Editor and Co-Editor for 14 books including Neurology in Tropics and has contributed more than 40 chapters in different books.
Inder M.S. Sawhney, MD, DM, FRCP, FIAN
Dr Inder M.S. Sawhney graduated from CMC, Ludhiana, Punjab, India, and was trained in neurology at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, India. He was awarded Commonwealth Fellowship for training in Epilepsy in Maudsley and King’s College Hospital, London, UK. He served on the Neurology faculty of the PGIMER, before joining as a Consultant in Morriston Hospital, ABM University Health Board, Wales, UK. He is the clinical lead in Epilepsy and Chair of the Epilepsy group. He has served as Clinical Director Neurosciences, ABM University Health Board and Programme Director Neurology of Wales. His major areas of interest in Neurology are Epilepsy and Tropical Neurology. He has extensively published in national and international journals. He has co-edited 8 books including Neurology in Tropics.
