Rubén nos muestra que en un mundo como el nuestro donde las diferencias mundiales están al borde de ser abismos insalvables, donde todo se está atomizando bajo el signo de la globalización, y donde el riesgo planea sobre cada acción, me ha resultado indispensable ser consecuente y coherente. Por descontado, siempre he sido sincero.Algún día me tocará partir como partieron muchos antes de mí, y como muchos partirán. No sé hasta donde alcanzarán mis dudas, entonces, ni mis vacilaciones. Ni siquiera sé qué hace bueno a un poema o a un poemario. Por ahora tan sólo alcanzo a comprender (y poco) al verso. Voy entendiendo lo que un profesor, Cristóbal, me comentó para dar un buen puñetazo hacen falta cuarenta años. Cuarenta, para aprender a darlo. A pesar de que no soy Umberto Eco ni este su diccionario para el péndulo de Foucault, sí dejaré unas notas sobre el recorrido de este libro. Como es obvio, "alegre fantasía" está inspirado en la poesía de Garcilaso y finaliza con una variación personal de un verso suyo trocado "en la dura, desierta, oscura tierra". A Lorca se refiere "que el tiempo nos encuentre destrozados". Se cita el libro más famoso de Huxley. Mezclo el naufragio real del Essex con la ficción de Moby Dick. "Baraja de huesos" recuerda a un poema de "Borges" que era, en realidad, de una poeta americana. El Gilgamesh es quizá el primer poema épico que se conoce. La historia de Miguel Ángel con Biagio de Cesena es real, según cuenta la historia, y el Papa Pablo se escudó en que él sólo tenía competencia en el cielo, y que el infierno era cosa del diablo. También la historia de Arthur Koesler es real, y sobrevivió para contarla. Las imágenes del Guernica las he mezclado con el lanzamiento de la primera bomba atómica, para mostrar la sinrazón y la barbarie de toda guerra. Neruda siempre me ha acompañado con alguno de sus versos memorables. El ejército de terracota de Xian me ha seducido siempre. El Barça, el fútbol, siempre ha estado presente en nuestras vidas por amor o por odio, aunque lo más importante es la fe en quienes somos o deseamos ser. Los Hermanos Marx siempre me han cautivado con su estilo de comicidad absurda y con sus gags. Pavese no decía que la mañana fuese oscura, sino vacía; me he permitido una licencia. En resumen, he labrado los temas de la segunda guerra mundial, el terrorismo, la inmigración, las religiones, la moda, los bancos y el sistema económico, la guerra civil y sus consecuencias, Vietnam, la existencia de Dios, la creación poética, la política, la indigencia, la prostitución, el narcotráfico, la civilización, Sherlock Holmes, José Agustín Goytisolo, Brossa. Tal vez el eco de Benedetti, Gil de Biedma y tantos otros junto al tema de siempre, el amor, en el que sigo perfectamente libre y sin ancla a la vista, mientras disfrutaba de mi particular exposición de Bruegel. El último apunte que debo restallar es una leyenda india: "cuando los bisontes hayan desaparecido, cuando el hombre haya desaparecido, lo único que quedará es la oscuridad. Y en la oscuridad resonará el eco del aullido del coyote".Finalmente, recordaré a Machado para corregirlo un poco: porque podéis asegurar que lo que diga puede ser interpretado de muchos modos, y no de uno sólo. Tan sólo he realizado un ejercicio más sobre el trapecio. Y cada vez que a solas, en compañía o de viva voz sientas necesidad de ti (de mí) sabes que puedes silbar. Y de algún modo, cuanto quede de mí acudirá en tu ayuda. Ahora he de marcharme. Me voy. Con el eco de Paul Valéry: "no existe el verdadero sentido de un texto".
