About the Book

For One Nen is an epic science fiction novel set on a starship named 'The Egress' that has been traveling for many generations under threat of annihilation from a nova. While the passengers come from many tribes their histories are intertwined. A group of students who represent each tribe uncover truths about their shared past, which differ from the approved texts. They discover ancient journals that had been smuggled aboard the ship in a storage crate, which had never been opened. Courageously they question long-standing beliefs they have been taught to revere. The knowledge they uncover will rewrite history. Meanwhile the ship's shields have been crippled by the recent nova's gamma ray burst. If the starship's technical crew is unable to repair them before the wave of particle radiation overtakes them all will be lost. The students are aided in their quest by Tala, the lovely and rebellious librarian. Her lesbian partner Deni, the spunky knife-wielding gardener, as well as the wise and mysterious Maven Sharla join her. Their teacher Tanik, raises a violent band of zealots in a futile attempt to quell this blasphemous movement that is leading her students astray. They learn how Atenilek the giant, gave his life For One Nen; his tiny friend, Tinnen. Journals and video documentaries reveal how a group of colonists from Earth warned the inhabitants of the doomed planet Reen of the coming nova and built the Egress. One hand-written journal reveals the final piece of the puzzle. It relays an ancient text about the strong and beautiful Hrilla, who saved her people from a tyrant. The story goes on to tell of her companion Fbathin who sacrificed her life rescuing the remaining children from the Emperor's madness. With this new revelation the students right a tragic wrong. They restore honor to the true heroes, the tribe that had long been hated and oppressed. As the ship faces imminent destruction we see the various ways its passengers choose to spend their final hours.
