About the Book

The Black Swan: The Impact Of The Highly Improbable/ Fooled By Randomness: The Hidden Role Of Chance In Life And In The Markets: 2 in 1 is a special edition consisting of two bestselling titles of Nassim Nicholas Taleb. Summary Of The Book The first book in this collection is The Black Swan: The Impact Of The Highly Improbable. It is a philosophical book that deals with the impact of various types of improbable events, taking place in almost everybody’s life, and the way people find simple explanations for them retrospectively. The application of this concept is universal and astonishing and the theory has, since the publication of the book, become popular as the black swan theory. Nassim Nicholas Taleb highlights the fact that Black Swans are present almost everywhere. They lie underneath almost every event from personal lives to the rise of religions. A Black Swan is identified with three traits: it is unexpected, it comes with a huge impact, and once come and gone, people find an explanation that makes the event seem less unpredictable and more probable. Besides explaining these events and common response to these events, the author also discusses the reason why people ignore such improbable events until after they occur? Taleb covers other valuable subjects of aesthetics, ways of life, and knowledge in this book thereby showcasing how to face the world in its true sense. The author makes use of fictional elements to make his points and teaches how to build robustness to negative Black Swans and exploit the positive ones. The second book in this edition is Taleb’s Fooled By Randomness: The Hidden Role Of Chance In Life And In The Markets that focuses on the imperfection and unreliability of human knowledge. Talking about the importance and role of chance in personal and corporate life, the book shows how human beings are unaware of the presence of randomness and how they try to explain random results as non-random. Everybody wants success in their life but not everybody is able to succeed. What is required to have an edge over others – is it some skill, strategy, or something random? Taleb informs in Fooled By Randomness: The Hidden Role Of Chance In Life And In The Markets that success depends on luck and here in he emphasizes that it is more about how people perceive luck in their professional and personal lives. This book has been named as the book of the year by Financial Times and it claims to teach the reader how to recognize randomness and change the way people look at the world.
