El narcotráfico ha entrado a formar parte de una peculiar cultura, y es de ahí de donde surge la palabra "Narcocultura" utilizada para hacer referencia al estilo de vida y al comportamiento de los hombres y mujeres que están inmersas en el narcotráfico. La "Narcocultura" es manifestada por un amplio y creciente número de personas especialmente de grupos formados por latinos en algunas regiones de los Estados Unidos de América, una desafortunada realidad que estigmatiza nuestro origen, pero que como nos describe en su nueva obra el investigador internacional y escritor Ángel Martínez, esta cultura no es del todo nueva, los hechos narrados datan de los años en los cuales se iniciaba la inmigración masiva de latinos hacia los Estados Unidos en la década de los setenta en New York, que llegó a ser considerada una de las ciudades más violentas de esa década. Con su particular forma de narrar la historia el autor describe cómo es la vida de un inmigrante latino en la ciudad de New York, sin duda es el reflejo de miles de latinos que como él inmigraron desde sus países buscando mejor fortuna en el "norte". La historia no dejará indiferente al lector ya que son muchas las situaciones que aún hoy están vigentes y sobre todo porque detrás de la historia está el deseo de contribuir a engrandecer nuestras raíces latinas con personajes que al contrario de lo que muchos piensan también forman parte de la inmensa cantidad de hombres y mujeres que desde E.E.U.U, trabajan y luchan por un mejor mañana para sus hijos y familiares en los cada vez más empobrecidos países latinoamericanos. El autor narra con hechos verdaderos una realidad que muchas veces nos ocultan las autoridades y los medios de comunicación, abriendo una puerta al debate sobre esta guerra para que podamos conseguir entre todos una salida al terrible flagelo del narcotráfico. Finalmente el deseo del autor es dar un mensaje importante. La labor de los gobiernos, más allá de una guerra frontal y abierta contra el narcotráfico por medio de la fuerza de las armas, debería enfocarse en el aspecto humano de la sociedad. Es decir, mejorar la educación teniendo como propósito el ir más allá de lo económico para fundamentalmente formar mejores personas. Sin embargo, todo el trabajo del gobierno no valdría sin el apoyo de la sociedad - que es donde reside la mayor responsabilidad -. Como sociedad debemos tener claro que es nuestro deber hacer algo para lograr un mejor mañana para todos.
