Je ne suis pas heureuse parce que la vie n'a pas été faite pour moi, parce que je suis une flamme qui se dévore elle-même et que rien ne peut l'éteindre; parce que je n'ai pas vécu librement la vie avec le droit de jouir des plaisirs et que j'ai été destinée à être vendue à un mari, comme dans l'antiquité on vendait des esclaves. Il y a cent ans, au Mexique en mille neuf cent vingt, naquit l'histoire passionnée d'une femme très spéciale et différente des dames de son époque: Nahui Olin. Diego Rivera, Tina Modotti, Pita Amor, José Vasconcelos, Edward Weston, des politiciens, des artistes, des puritains furent témoins de la vie de cette écrivaine, peintre et modèle qui ébranla la société mexicaine avec des photographies artistiques de ses nus.

Elle était la fille du controversé Général Manuel Mondragón, auteur de la Decena Trágica dans notre pays. Le célèbre peintre et volcanologue, le Dr Atl, se noya dans la mer de ses yeux verts, et tous deux firent du Couvent de la Merced le foyer de leur passion ardente et débridée. Ses lettres d'amour et de haine, les peintures qu'elle réalisa avec ses partenaires posant nus, toute sa vie, nous parlent d'une femme brillante, différente de celle que la société mythifia comme le "Fantôme du Correo Mayor".

Le présent livre est une biofiction avec des photographies de María del Carmen Mondragón Valseca alias Nahui Olin. Des personnages comme Diego Rivera et Frida Kahlo, les réprimandes de sa mère Mercedes Valseca face aux impulsions de Nahui Olin alors qu'elle n'était qu'une enfant, ainsi que des événements historiques au Mexique, nous aident à découvrir le contexte dans lequel vécut Nahui Olin.

Bien que plus de quatre décennies se soient écoulées depuis ce vingt-trois janvier mille neuf cent soixante-dix-huit, je ne suis pas morte. Je continue de me promener, terrible et sensuelle, dans les rues de ma chère Alameda. Belle, d'esprit libre, sans préjugés ni poses, je reste moi-même: l'érotisme qui a secoué la société mexicaine dans les années mille neuf cent vingt. Le silence a réprimé ma voix à travers les années, mais peut-être que cette cruauté est motivée par la peur que mes puissants yeux verts ne consomment tout à travers mon fidèle amant, le soleil. Mais maintenant, toi qui me lis à travers ces lignes, assieds-toi à mes côtés et laisse-moi te caresser avec mon histoire, qui commence un huit juillet mille huit cent quatre-vingt-treize...
