Die Antwort auf diese Frage wurde an manchem Stammtisch schnell gefunden: Demnach sei es etwa eine blutrünstige, unkultivierte Religion dieser unzivilisierten Völker östlicher Schurkenstaaten, gegen die sich der westliche Kulturverbund, angeführt vom amerikanischen Militär, bis heute im Kriegszustand befindet, obgleich im Englischen längst eine Unterscheidung zum traditionellen Krieg zwischen Staaten geschaffen wurde, indem in diesem konkreten Fall des Terrors aus dem Inneren vom public enemy die Rede ist. Leider ist es bis zum heutigen Tage eben genau diese unaufgeklärte, pauschale Verurteilung des Islam als Kriegerreligion, die sich in manch einem Kopf festgesetzt hat und unter Umständen derart unreflektiert an die eigenen Kinder weitervermittelt wird. "So nah und doch so fern" Muslimische Mitmenschen bereichern die deutsche Bevölkerung nun bereits seit etwa fünfzig Jahren, doch scheinen sich die Fronten zwischen jenen ohne Migrationshintergrund und solchen, die muslimisch geprägten Ländern entstammen, eher zu verhärten denn aufzuweichen, und das ironischerweise in einer Zeit schwindender religiöser und konfessioneller Gebundenheit und zunehmender Privatisierung und Individualisierung des Glaubens. Hier kann, soll und muss die Schule einsetzen. In die Verantwortung muss sich dabei in besonderem Maße der Religionsunterricht nehmen, wenngleich nicht erst seit den Anschlägen ohnehin eine wie auch immer geartete Islamkunde auf dem Programm steht. Doch dem Suchen des interreligiösen Dialogs muss ein breiterer Raum geboten werden, als es vielleicht früher der Fall war. Die Materie ist schlichtweg sensibler geworden.
