Aufgrund der sich ändernden Rahmenbedingungen und einer Zunahme an Komplexität in der Lebens- und Arbeitswelt steht das Personalmanagement einer Vielzahl von neuen Anforderungen gegenüber. So soll das Personal-management als Managementaufgabe dynamisch, agil, verlässlich, ethisch aber auch flexibel sein. Über diese veränderten Rahmenbedingung und die damit verbundene Zunahme an Komplexität hinaus drängt der Wertewandel in Bezug auf ein Nebeneinander von Arbeits- und Privatleben die Unternehmen zu einer veränderten Gestaltung des Personalmanagements. So hält das Prinzip der Nachhaltigkeit beziehungsweise der Nachhaltigkeitsgedanke in Bezug auf das Personalmanagement vermehrt Einzug in die Literatur. In der Praxis wird es für Unternehmen zunehmend schwieriger, Mitarbeiter anzuwerben, zu sichern und letztendlich an das Unternehmen zu binden. Es bedarf also von Seiten der Unternehmen Maßnahmen, um sich inhaltlich vom Wettbewerb abzusetzen und in Bezug auf die Einbringung wertvoller Humanressourcen die langfristige Wirtschaftlichkeit der Unternehmung zu sichern. Die Umsetzung eines nachhaltigen Personalmanagements kann in diesem Zusammenhang ein Instrument zur Anpassung an die sich ändernden Rahmenbedingungen darstellen. So werden in dieser Arbeit zunächst definitorische Grundlagen gelegt, wobei insbesondere die Definition (Kapitel 2.1) und die Konzeption eines nachhaltigen Personalmanagements (Kapitel 2.2) im Vordergrund stehen.
