Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: In den frühen 90er Jahren fiel weltweit der Startschuss einer Entwicklung, die seitdem die Unternehmenswelt in Atem hält. In der Wirtschaft entstanden zunehmend Unternehmen, die traditionelle Strukturen aufbrachen und dynamischer bzw. flexibler strukturiert waren als bis dahin für möglich gehalten wurde. Virtualität wurde zum Schlagwort des Jahrzehnts und stellte sich nicht mehr nur als Utopie fantasiebegabter Autoren dar. Vielmehr wurde die Virtualisierung für eine größer werdende Anzahl von Unternehmen zu einer strikten Notwendigkeit. Denn für eine Vielzahl von Unternehmen ließ sich eine bedeutende Veränderung der Wettbewerbssituation feststellen, die durch mehrere gleichzeitige Entwicklungstendenzen gekennzeichnet war. Da kaum ein Unternehmen in der Lage war, die neuen Herausforderungen und die aus ihnen resultierenden Erfolgspotentiale im Alleingang zu bewältigen, war auf der Basis der Virtualität ein verstärkter Trend zur internen Umstrukturierung und externer Kooperation zu beobachten. Gang der Untersuchung: In dieser Arbeit sollen virtuelle Organisationsstrukturen in Unternehmen näher betrachtet werden. Im Mittelpunkt der Überlegungen stehen dabei deren Auswirkungen auf die Führung von Mitarbeitern sowie die betriebliche Leistungserstellung. Gerade in diesen Bereichen sind weitreichende Veränderungen und Konsequenzen durch Virtualisierung zu erwarten. Zielstellung der Arbeit ist es, eben diese ausführlich darzustellen und eine anschließende Bewertung des Konzeptes der virtuellen Organisationsstrukturen vorzunehmen, um den möglichen Nutzen für Unternehmen ausmachen zu können. Damit soll die Frage beantwortet werden, ob Virtualität tatsächlich, wie oft propagiert, als der wirtschaftliche Schlüsselfaktor des erfolgreichen Unternehmens im 21.
