La historia del arte es un tema que favorece el aprecio por la identidad cultural. Realizaremos una revisión de los estilos, movimientos y tendencias principales a partir del nacionalismo hasta la actualidad. Mencionaremos artistas principales y brindaremos

recursos didácticos que permitan una comprensión general de cincuenta años del devenir artístico en México. El objetivo de esta obra es introducir al estudiante al conocimiento de la historia reciente del arte en México, a través de información y ejercicios, que le permiten una revalorización del arte y la cultura mexicana.

Narrar la historia del arte mexicano es un ejercicio de síntesis, así como de una peculiar interpretación de la realidad; donde uno ve una línea, otro encuentra un círculo. Es importante documentar y dar testimonio del mundo en que vivimos, las manifestaciones y polémicas del mundo del arte, de los gustos y costumbres de las personas. La historia del arte no aborda solamente la relación de las llamadas obras artísticas: pintura, fotografía, cine, artes conceptuales, arquitectura, etc. En la tradición del arte occidental observamos procesos de creación, distribución y consumo; de qué manera una cultura abraza, promueve y en ocasiones disuelve determinados discursos culturales.

El trabajo teórico de Victorieux presenta una visión histórica y crítica de la historia del arte reciente en México. De forma amena, guía al lector a través de sucesos relevantes, sus protagonistas, las tensiones y alianzas entre ellos, y la repercusión de su obra en la sociedad. Esta obra es fundamental didáctica, propia para la formación cultural de adolescentes y adultos. El primer capítulo aborda lo que fue el nacionalismo, y de qué manera este aún pernea la época contemporánea. El segundo capítulo presenta la generación de la Ruptura, y su relación con la política cultural marcada desde Estados Unidos. También reflexionamos en torno a movimientos contraculturas. En el tercer capítulo nos enfocamos en movimientos y tendencias comunes, como lo son el pop, el kitsch y las artes conceptuales. Para concluir, en el cuarto capítulo encontramos una semblanza de las principales tendencias en arquitectura, y las estrategias de posicionamiento y mercado del arte. Es bueno que recordemos que el arte es un proceso de creación, de conocimiento, y también puede ser una herramienta para cultivar la conciencia social. El conocimiento del pasado brinda raíces necesarias para construir con mayor seguridad nuestros pasos en el presente.
