Cet ouvrage présente de façon rigoureuse les principales méthodes d'approximation numérique pour les équations aux dérivées partielles(EDP), ayant pour objectif l'approximation de diffusion en tomographie optique. L'originalité de cet ouvrage réside dans l'exposé de méthodes nouvelles pour gérer la variable du temps des EDP non-stationnaire, il s'agit d'utiliser la transformée de Fourier pour transformer la variable du temps en fréquence, puis utiliser la méthode de Galerkin à base les B-splines et splines tensorielles comme outils d'approximation. Ensuite, nous avons procédé par la transformée de Fourier inverse avec comme moyen d'intégration numérique la méthode de Gauss-Hermite pour calculer la solution en fonction du temps. Nous nous sommes intéressé à l'estimation de l'erreur pour laquelle nous avons contribué par certains résultats. Un chapitre complet est consacré à la mise en oeuvre pratique de la méthode d'approximation sans maillage en utilisant les fonctions à base radiale à support compact ou non comme noyaux reproduisant de l'espace d'interpolation. Dans le dernier chapitre, nous avons développé des résultats théoriques et calculs techniques concernant le problème inverse.
