Albert Steffen (1884-1963) gehorte zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts mit Robert Walser zu den wichtigsten Schweizer Nachwuchsschriftstellern. 1945 ist im Schwabe Verlag in der Sammlung Klosterberg zum 60. Geburtstag des Dichters eine Gedichtsammlung Steffens erschienen, herausgegeben eingeleitet von Walter Muschg. Heute ist Steffens Werk von der Literaturwissenschaft nahezu unbeachtet. In der einleitenden Rezeptionsgeschichte stellt die Autorin die Ursachen der Anerkennung des Fruhwerks dar bis zur gescheiterten Verleihung des Schillerpreises und zur spaten Rezeption. Dies bildet den Hintergrund der im Zentrum stehenden Analyse der 1923 erschienenen Kleinen Mythen, einer Kurzprosa die zu Steffens originarsten Schopfungen gehort. Dieses Werk bildet den Ubergang in ein experimentelles und hermetisches Schreiben, dem die literarische Kritik nicht mehr folgen konnte. Steffens Kleine Mythen beziehen den Traum, das Jenseits und die Verstorbenen als Wirklichkeit mit ein. Wahrend der alte Mythos die Welt der Gotter als selbstverstandliche Offenbarung voraussetzt, erzahlt Steffen einen neuen, eben den Kleinen Mythos, der sich von der Erde aus uber die Grenzen des Irdischen hinweg auf ein Himmlisches zu bewegt. Kleine Mythen sind jedoch keine theoretischen, hypothetischen Phantasien uber die andere Seite der Wirklichkeit. Sie gehen von der Erfahrung des individuellen Lebens aus, das als eine Auseinandersetzung des Ich mit verschiedenen Grenzerfahrungen erzahlt wird. Steffens Mythosverstandnis wird mit den wichtigsten Mythostheorien in Verbindung gebracht und liefert die inhaltlichen Gesichtspunkte fur die Analyse. Die semantische und narrative Struktur der Texte wird mit Hilfe strukturalistischer Analyseverfahren freigelegt. Exkurse in angrenzende Themen des Werkes sowie in Theologie, Anthroposophie, Mythologie bis hin zu hermetischen Traditionen der Astrologie und Zahlensymbolik erlautern die Kontexte.
About the Author: Die Autorin: Christiane Haid, geb. 1965, studierte Germanistik, Geschichte, Erziehungswissenschaften, Kunstgeschichte und Kunst in Freiburg i.Br. und Hamburg. 1993 -2001 Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Friedrich von Hardenberg-Institut fur Kulturwissenschaften in Heidelberg, 2001-2006 wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin der Sektion fur Schone Wissenschaften am Goetheanum Dornach/Schweiz, 2006-2009 als Kulturwissenschaftlerin in der Albert Steffen Stiftung, Dornach tatig. Seit 2009 leitet sie den Verlag am Goetheanum in Dornach.
