Der Unternehmensberater Reinhard Sprenger hat sich durch Bucher Das Prinzip Selbstverantwortung oder Die Entscheidung liegt bei Dir! einen Namen gemacht. Seine provokativen Thesen haben seine Leser in zwei Lager gespalten. Auch mit dem in 14. Auflage neu erschienenen Buch zum Mythos Motivation sprengt Sprenger gangige Muster der Unternehmensfuhrung. Motivationsspritzen durch Pramien, Urlaube, Geschenke haben sich in den Kopfen vieler Unternehmer als notwendige Methode festgesetzt. Sie gehen davon aus, daß Mitarbeiter dadurch zu Hochstleistungen gebracht werden konnen. Sprenger argumentiert sehr raffiniert dagegen. Seiner Ansicht nach verliert durch diese versprochene Belohnung die Arbeit ihren eigentlichen Zweck. Die Kreativitat bleibt auf der Strecke, weil nicht mehr um der Tatigkeit willen, sondern nur noch wegen des Koders gearbeitet wird. Einleuchtend ist seine These, daß diese Haltung ein grundsatzliches Mißtrauen dem Mitarbeiter gegenuber innewohnt. "Eigentlich -- so die implizierte Annahme -- sind tendenziell alle Mitarbeiter Betruger. Sie betrugen den Arbeitgeber um einen Teil der Arbeitskraft, die er bezahlt." Sprenger raumt ein, daß ein versprochenes Geschenk durchaus kurzfristig seine Wirkung durch einen erhohten Einsatz erzielt. Aber nur fur eine kurze Zeit. Die Pramien werden immer mehr nach oben geschraubt und hohe Kosten entstehen. Eine weitere Folge tritt Die Begeisterung fur die Bestechung verliert an Wert. Der Mitarbeiter verliert seine Begeisterung fur die Idee, er wird sich so niemals mit dem Unternehmen identifizieren. Er wird sogar quengelig, anspruchsvoll und von aggressiver Langeweile gepackt. Es ist also kontraproduktiv. Aber was schlagt der Autor als Alternative vor? Bis Sprenger diese Katze aus dem Sack laßt, hat der Leser vielleicht schon fast aufgegeben. Fast zum Schluß des Buches erst listet der Unternehmensberater auf, was sinnvoll ist. Die Arbeit sollte gestalterisch sein, produktiv, im Dienste der Gemeinschaft stehen, Planung und Ausfuhrung beinhalten und interaktiv sein, mit vielfaltigen sozialen Kontakten. Sprenger hat erneut bewiesen, wie geschickt er Klischees sprengen kann. --Corinna S. Heyn
