About the Author: About our authors Jennifer M. Cainas, DBA, MAcc, CPA, is a clinical professor at the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy at the University of South Florida. Dr. Cainas primarily teaches introductory financial and managerial accounting, as well as Intermediate Financial Accounting, and Cost Accounting. She has taught in a variety of formats, including mass lectures, online, hybrid and hyflex classes. During her teaching career, she has taught and mentored over 15,000 business students and has won numerous teaching awards at the college, university, state, and national level. She is also the faculty adviser for the Delta Gamma Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, and received the national outstanding faculty advisor award, sponsored by RSM, in 2013.
Dr. Cainas is a Certified Public Accountant and is a member of the American Accounting Association (AAA), the Institute of Management Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She is a member of the Management Accounting Section as well as the Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum Section of the AAA. She has published articles in journals such as Journal of Emerging Technologies and Strategic Finance. She regularly presents at AAA regional and national meetings.
Dr. Cainas has co-authored several data analytics projects, 2 of which she received an Honorable Mention for the Bea Sanders/AICPA Teaching Innovation award (in 2019 and 2021) as well as received the Jim Bulloch Innovations in Management Accounting Award (2020). She also co-authored a virtual escape room case for use in introductory managerial accounting and was awarded the Bea Sanders/AICPA Teaching Innovation award and the Jim Bulloch Innovations in Management Accounting award, both in 2021.
Dr. Cainas earned her Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) from the University of Florida. She received her Master's Degree of Accountancy and her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Accounting from the University of South Florida. Prior to teaching at USF, Dr. Cainas was a practicing accountant, working for several Fortune 500 companies throughout her professional career and specialized in financial reporting and analysis.
Dr. Cainas enjoys spending time with her family and has 3 grown children. In her spare time, she enjoys walking, biking, and home renovation projects.
Celina. L. Jozsi is the recipient of 20 teaching awards, including the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA) Outstanding Accounting Educator Award. She retired from the University of South Florida and joined the Barney Barnett School of Free Enterprise at Florida Southern College where she continues to teach Cost accounting at both undergraduate and graduate courses as well as Intermediate Accounting and Study Abroad courses. At Florida Southern College, she is also the Director of the Institute of Accounting Excellence and is a faculty advisor for the Accounting Student Association.
While at the University of South Florida, Professor Jozsi was the first School of Accountancy Accounting Circle Teaching Fellow. She was also a past president of the Tampa Bay Chapter of National Association of Accountants (now the Institute of Management Accountants), past president of Beta Gamma Sigma, and past Faculty Advisor of Beta Alpha Psi. She taught in a very successful live CPA Review Program for over 20 years.
As a Florida CPA, Professor Jozsi has given over 50 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) presentations to various chapters of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountant, FICPA Conferences and FAB Expo, ALPFA, IMA, and the Community Foundation CPE Extravaganza. She earned both a BA and MACC from the University of South Florida. She has been a frequent textbook reviewer. She has published in the Florida CPA Today and is currently a trustee for the FICPA Scholarship Foundation.
Professor Jozsi has consulting experience and significant involvement with the business community, including minority high school summer camps, American Great Teach In, and Hispanic Heritage. A Cuban American, she has been recognized by Hispanic Heritage of Tampa Bay as Hispanic Woman of the Year in Education. Given her background and career, she served in 2019 as the keynote speaker for the annual FICPA Scholarship Awards Banquet.
Kelly Richmond Pope, PhD, is a nationally recognized expert in forensic accounting and white-collar crime research. She is an award-winning educator, researcher, and documentary filmmaker. She currently serves as Professor of Accounting in the School of Accountancy and Management Information Systems at DePaul University, where she teaches managerial and forensic accounting. Her research focuses on organizational misconduct, ethics and fraud, and corporate culture and compliance systems designed to confront these challenges. Dr. Pope's research on executive misconduct culminated in directing and producing the award-winning documentary, All the Queen's Horses, in 2017. All the Queen's Horses explores the largest municipal fraud in US history. In 2018, Dr. Pope became a TED speaker with her impactful and timely TED Talk entitled How whistle-blowers shape history which has been viewed over 1.6 million times and translated into 20 languages. In 2020, the American Institute of CPAs and the CPA Practice Advisor named Dr. Pope among the top 25 most powerful women in accounting.
Dr. Pope has received numerous teaching and innovation awards including the DePaul University Lawrence W. Ryan Distinguished Teaching Award, the MERLOT Award for Exemplary Online Learning Resources in Business (Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching), the American Accounting Association Diversity Section Innovation in Research Award, and the AICPA Mark Chain/FSA Teaching Innovation Award. One of her proudest moments to date was receiving the invitation to be the 2019 Fall Commencement speaker at her alma mater, North Carolina A&T State University.
Dr. Pope currently serves as a board member and chair of the Greater Chicago Food Depository audit committee. She is a former director and finance chair for Mercy Hospital & Medical Center, former director of the Illinois CPA Society and former member of the governing council for AICPA. She received her bachelor of science in accounting from North Carolina A&T State University and her masters in accountancy and doctorate in accounting from Virginia Tech. She is a licensed certified public accountant (CPA) in the state of North Carolina.
