About the Book

The My New Normal journal came about after Natasha witnessed her twin brother, Jermaine, survive a car accident that left him in a coma for 10 days, ultimately leaving him to live his new normal as a traumatic brain injury survivor. The idea for this journal was birthed out of the need for a place that Jermaine could journal about his day as it was happening so he could then reflect upon the day in the evening and remember and celebrate his accomplishments that took place that day. My New Normal allows for journaling and thought processing of traumatic brain injury survivors on a daily basis. By taking the time to set the tone for the day and reflect at the end of the evening of each day, brain injury survivors begin to establish repetition through the routine of journaling. Get ready to write the pages to your own story. You have a voice. You matter. You deserve to be heard. Welcome to your new normal. This journal contains a short description of why Natasha created this journal, a brief description of how to use the journal, and 365 prompted journal pages with 21 additional notes/journaling pages.
About the Author: Natasha Rachell is the twin sister of Jermaine, a traumatic brain injury survivor. She created this journal for him and hopes that it aids TBI survivors in their healing process. With a personal belief of "living with intent," Natasha Rachell has been in the field of education for 15 years. Natasha began her career as a substitute teacher and became alternatively certified and as a result she earned her certification in Broad Field General Science, grades 6-12. After leaving the classroom, Natasha took a position with the Department of Professional Learning as the science coach for the Math and Science Transition to Teaching program. Natasha currently serves as a Science Digital Learning Specialist. Natasha has immersed herself into the instructional technology space and has earned several certifications, awards and accomplishments, some of which include: Google Certified Trainer, Microsoft innovative Educator, Apple Teacher, Surface Educator, Flipgrid Ambassador, and Star Discovery Educator to name a few. Mrs. Rachell has furthered her education to earn her master's degree in Educational Administration, her specialist's degree in Curriculum and Instruction, and is currently pursuing her doctoral degree in Organizational Leadership with an Emphasis in Effective Schools. Mrs. Rachell is a recent presenter of EdTechTeam's Virtual Summit and a contributor to Dr. Sonja Hollins-Alexander's, Online Professional Development Through Virtual Learning Communities. She is ecstatic to lead the work as we transition into 21 century classrooms through blended learning opportunities, BYOD, STEM initiatives, professional learning for instructional technology and digitally connected classrooms. She is a life long learner and strives to be the change that she wishes to see.
