About the Book

As three women (Tamara, Clair and Shannon) embark on life's journey poetically, their thoughts evolve into the rhythm and rhyme of poetic flow. Each woman faces the downfalls, surprises, mishaps and up-rises life throws upon them. Tamara, a hurt soul, is faced with the burden of never knowing a fathers love and care for his daughter. This marks her constant need of a love from a man. Though, in finding that man, Tamara came to the conclusion that all men are just like her father. She is challenged with the hardships of letting go, to forgive and to love again. Clair is a woman without trust. Never knowing her parents, moving from home to home, her life has made her exterior hard as a rock. Not only does she feel unloved from her parents, everyone she's built a relationship with has given her plenty of reason to never believe, never trust again. In finding through life that everything isn't always what it seems to be, Clair is challenged with restoring hope, letting in and giving out. Shannon is a woman unknown. She has yet to figure out who she really is because she has always tried to find it within men, wealthy men. To be known in the world of money is her biggest goal yet and to achieve that goal she has fully submitted herself to any man with financial gain, becoming him. Through her journey, she finds that true wealth derives from love and that love never stems from wealth. Shannon is challenged with her inner most fears, of being herself. Struggling to remember who they are, where they have came from and what they aspire to be. Never giving up, holding on to their faith and following their hearts most inner desires are the lessons each woman will learn through their path of poetic reason. Each woman will come to the conclusion of finding what self-worth, love, life and happiness is all about.
About the Author: My name is LaToya Dixon and I am a poet, a writer, of love, life, hope, fear, inspiration and many more. Although I have yet to have anything published, I continue to write and recite pieces of my works in hopes of establishing a writing career. Inspired by my English professor, during my freshman year of college, who expressed how great of a writer I was. That she looked forward in reading my papers as they were interesting and quite humors and that I should look into becoming a writer. I looked at her as though she had two heads. I was completely puzzled, shocked rather, as to what on earth did she mean. I never saw myself as a writer, a good writer anyway. Though, I loved to write. Hell, I kept a diary and wrote every day since elementary school but I thought, "hey, doesn't everybody?" Her words stuck with me, they inspired me. I sat down and I wrote a book. I tried anyway, it sucked. I got so frustrated that I gave up! I thought my teacher was mad, pure madness! It wasn't until a couple years later that I went to an open-mic night on campus. There were so many performances and a few spoken word pieces that had me in awe. I was moved, star struck. Not by the performers but through the words, the stories, the meaning and power behind it. I knew that, that was the kind of writing I was destined for. I had passion when I wrote because it came so natural to me, it was easy. But I didn't know exactly what that passion was geared towards. So that night, I sat down and I wrote. And I wrote to the point where tears filled my eyes. In that moment, is when I realized that I was writer. Never again would I write anything without passion, if it didn't bring tears to my eyes it wasn't good enough. If I didn't feel it in my soul, it wasn't good enough. My Life Is Poetry: Through A Woman's Eyes is my first book written, self-published. It is a book of passion, a book of love, a book of trials and tribulations, a book of strength and perseverance. It is a short story which holds a little drama, romance, inspiration and a poetic feel. Targeting young adult to middle age women. It is a hidden gem, with great potential and I feel that I am an undiscovered writing guru whom is very humble, waiting for her moment to shine (aren't we all).
