Below is a brief explanation of what the actvities in each chapter aim to achieve: 1- I discover The first activity is an introduction to the story, as we need to make sure that the child is ready to absorb the information and that they have enough amount of vocabulary that enables them to understand the story. Although this paragraph does not list all the recommended keywords, but it reminds the teacher that he needs to simplify the text by explaining new vocabulary occurring in the story. In the following paragraph: Guidance corner, we suggested all these keywords and we listed them all with their translation in the back of the book for easy reference. The teacher is required to introduce these keywords-which increase in their level of challenge- and drill them through Flash cards and games. Parents are also advised to cover them with the child before retelling the story and attempting the speaking activity. Guidance corner gives the teacher/ guardian a brief explanation of the steps that should be followed in respect of speaking and listening, detailed explanation will be found in the 'Teacher Guide' Listen to me: This is the main activity which aims to build the child's vocabulary through listening. Therefore stories have been designed carefully taking into consideration the child's age, environment and interests. We selected vocabulary that can be expressed by body language or can be illustrated so the teacher uses this instead of translating. Translation during story hinders child's literacy and makes him less attracted and engaged. The child also needs to be given the chance to speak freely about the pictures first, and then listen to the story. This ensures that the child is engaged in learning. 3 - Answer me: This section relates back to the story, where the child answers the comprehension questions. It is recommended to encourage the child to give full answers made of complete sentences. It is beneficial to add indirect questions to stimulate child's imagination and encourage him thinking and problem solving. This activity enhances the child's use of syntax and gradually enables him to apply the grammatical rules correctly. -4 I read In this activity the child explores a new letter. The sentence used is extracted from the story as a key sentence and contains all shapes of a new letter. The child is therefore familiar with this sentence, and the words it contained should be taught to the child through card games. He should not be asked to decode these words as most of them contain letters that the child has not learned yet. . 5 - I distinguish After the child has discovered this new letter, and read words containing it, he is now required to recognize its sound and shape with short vowels and long vowels 6 - I decode The words that have been chosen in this exercise only contain learnt letters so far, so the child can read them independently by decoding and joining them into syllables. We need to give the child time and support into doing so without reading them for him or asking him to repeat after us, as this practice makes the child memorize the shape of the words rather than decoding them which will hinder his reading ability and reduces his fluency at a later stage. Writing Activities: The first few exercises are designed for class activities, as the teacher needs to use certain skills and steps so that each exercise meets its target. Through this the teacher will be able to assess the child's comprehension and progress. the book has been set out with a picture index and keywords in the last pages of the book for easy reference.
