About the Book

Although avian influenza A virus usually do not infect humans, rare cases of human infection with avian influenza viruses have been reported since 1997. Confirmed instances of avian influenza viruses infecting humans since 1997 include: H5N1, H9N2, H7N2, H7N7and H7N3 according to Centres for Disease Control of the United States of America (CDC, 2007).The most commonly implicated strain in human disease is H5N1 and in almost all cases, those infected with this strain had extensive contact with infected birds. Around 60% of humans known to have been infected with the current Asian strain of H5N1 have died from it according to Centres for Disease Control of the United States of America (CDC, 2007). There is no evidence of efficient human to human transmission or of airborne transmission of H5N1 to humans according to (CDC, 2007). One form influenza viruses change is called "antigenic drift." These are small mutations in the genes of influenza viruses that can lead to changes in the surface proteins of the virus: NA (neuraminidase)and HA (hemagglutinin). The HA and NA surface proteins of influenza viruses are "antigens," which means they are known by the immune system and are capable of triggering an immune response, as well as production of antibodies that can block infection. The changes related with antigenic drift happen frequently over time as the virus replicates. Most flu shots are designed to target an influenza virus' HA surface proteins or antigens. For example; the nasal spray flu vaccine (LAIV) targets both the HA and NA of an influenza virus. The new version of the coronavirus is considered to be a variant. It has been named VOC-202012/01 and belongs to the type B genetic lineage. It is best to use these labels rather than calling it "the English variant", since it has been found in thirty-five countries so far and may well be even more widespread. Now it is certain that there is a new variant of covid19 mutated in the United Kingdom that has increase new infections and hospitals are overwhelmed hence declaring a Public Health Emergency. Although Public Health Specialist in131 communities have come up with kits that tests asymptomatic individuals to reduce on the number of spreads. There is still ongoing research and research to be carried out on this current mutation both in the UK and South Africa. This book will add knowledge, insight and current Public Health ways of preventing of a current pandemic and others like cold that is common in the UK winters.
