About the Book

Dass sprachliche und kulturelle Vielfalt zu den grossen Herausforderungen an die europäischen Bildungssysteme gehört, ist heute unbestritten. Etwa seit Mitte der siebziger Jahre versuchen Konzepte der «interkulturellen Erziehung», die sich zunächst als Antwort auf die migrationsbedingte Pluralität begriff, dem monokulturellen Selbstverständnis der nationalen Bildungssysteme eine Alternative entgegenzusetzen. Aber wie erfolgreich ist diese Alternative? Deren Durchschlagskraft blieb bis heute eher bescheiden. Steckt die interkulturelle Utopie in einer Krise? Ist sie gar am Ende? Wenn ja, weshalb? Wenn nicht, wie sieht die Weiterentwicklung aus? Beiträge von Forschern verschiedener Disziplinen, die sich Fragestellungen in verschiedenen Ländern zuwenden, erlauben es, diese Problematik im internationalen Vergleich zu beleuchten.
Diese zweite, inhaltlich unveränderte, aber formal verbesserte Auflage wurde infolge der grossen Nachfrage realisiert. Die Berichte über Forschungsergebnisse, die kritische Betrachtung des Konzepts der «interkulturellen Erziehung» sowie die Entfaltung neuer theoretischer Ansätze, die über den engen kulturalistischen und differentialistischen Rahmen der ersten Modelle hinaus reichen, haben angesichts der noch zu lösenden Probleme und der nicht gerade atemberaubenden bildungspolitischen Entwicklungen in den europäischen Schulen nichts von ihrer Aktualität eingebüsst.

Depuis le milieu des années 70 environ, les concepts liés à l'«éducation interculturelle», option conçue à l'origine comme réponse aux migrations internationales, se proposent comme alternative à la philosophie monoculturelle des systèmes éducatifs nationaux. Mais quel est le succès de cette alternative? Sa force de pénétration semble avoir été jusqu'à aujourd'hui plutôt modeste. L'utopie interculturelle traverse-t-elle une crise? Est-elle même épuisée? Si c'est le cas, pourquoi? Et si non, dans quelle direction va-t-elle se développer? Les contributions de chercheurs de différentes disciplines sur les réalités de plusieurs pays, permettent d'approfondir l'analyse de la problématique sous un angle comparatif et en dépassant les limites des divers contextes nationaux.

Les références à des résultats de recherches, la discussion critique du concept «éducation interculturelle» ainsi que la présentation de nouvelles approches théoriques, plus larges par rapport aux premiers modèles plutôt culturalistes et différentialistes, maintiennent toute leur actualité face aux problèmes encore à résoudre et à l'évolution plutôt prudente des politiques éducatives dans les écoles d'Europe.
