Die Dracula-Filme, die von Universal Pictures produziert wurden, haben einen bleibenden Eindruck im Horrorfilm-Genre hinterlassen und trugen maßgeblich zur Schaffung des klassischen Vampir-Mythos auf der Leinwand bei. In den 1930er-Jahren begann Universal mit der Verfilmung von Bram Stokers ikonischem Roman "Dracula" und die darauf folgenden Filme prägten das Bild des Blutsaugers in der Populärkultur.

Der erste und vielleicht bekannteste Film der Reihe ist "Dracula" von 1931 unter der Regie von Tod Browning. Bela Lugosi verkörperte hier den Grafen Dracula und schuf damit das charakteristische Aussehen und die Haltung des Vampirs, das noch heute im kollektiven Bewusstsein verankert ist. Der Film war ein Kassenerfolg und etablierte Lugosi als führende Vampir-Ikone seiner Zeit.

"Draculas Tochter" (1936) setzte die Erfolgsgeschichte fort und führte Gloria Holden als Gräfin Marya Zaleska ein, die versucht, ihre vampirische Existenz zu überwinden. Obwohl der Film nicht den gleichen Status wie sein Vorgänger erreichte, trug er dennoch zur Entwicklung der Dracula-Legende bei.

Der dritte Film in der Reihe, "Draculas Sohn" (1943), kehrte zu den Wurzeln zurück und ließ wieder einen männlichen Vampir die Hauptrolle spielen. Lon Chaney Jr. übernahm die Rolle von Graf Alucard (Dracula rückwärts geschrieben), und obwohl der Film nicht den gleichen Ruhm wie die vorherigen Teile erlangte, war er dennoch ein solider Beitrag im Universum der Dracula-Filme.
