Im berufsbildenden Bereich Osterreichs setzte sich in den letzten Jahren immer starker die Erkenntnis durch, dass die alleinige Forderung fachlicher und methodischer Kompetenzen nicht ausreicht, damit Schuler/-innen den Anforderungen ihrer zukunftigen Berufe entsprechen. Stattdessen mussen in der Schule neben fachlichen und methodischen Kompetenzen auch soziale und personale Kompetenzen beachtet und deren Entwicklung unterstutzt werden. Die Forderung sozialer und personaler Kompetenzen kann im Kontext der Schule und Unterrichtspraxis auf unterschiedliche Art und Weise stattfinden. Eine Moglichkeit ist die direkte Forderung der Kompetenzen in einem eigenen Unterrichtsgegenstand. Ein weiterer Ansatzpunkt ist die Unterstutzung der sozialen und personalen Kompetenzentwicklung in allen Unterrichtsgegenstanden uber den Einsatz geeigneter, fachubergreifender Unterrichtsaufgaben. Beide Ansatze werden in der vorliegenden Arbeit naher betrachtet und empirisch untersucht. Der Fokus der Arbeit wird vor allem auf motivationale Prozesse seitens der Schuler/-innen gelegt. So stellt sich unter anderem die Frage, wie die Kompetenzen motivierend, interessant und lernwirksam gefordert werden konnen. Neben Konzepten und Modellen zu sozialen und personalen Kompetenzen und deren Forderung stellt das Angebots-Nutzungs-Modell nach Helmke eine theoretische Grundlage der Arbeit dar. Bei diesem handelt es sich um ein in der Unterrichtsforschung etabliertes Modell zur Erklarung unterrichtlicher Wirkung. Zur Weiterentwicklung des Modells werden zwei Motivations- und Interessenstheorien integriert, die Selbstbestimmungstheorie der Motivation nach Deci und Ryan und die Person-Gegenstands-Theorie des Interesses nach Krapp, Prenzel und Schiefele. Auf die theoretische Auseinandersetzung mit der Thematik folgen zwei umfassende empirische Untersuchungen, an denen Schuler/-innen samtlicher Schularten des osterreichischen berufsbildenden Bereichs teilgenommen haben. Entsprechend dem Angebots-Nutzungs-Modell werden unterschiedliche Aspekte im Kontext der sozialen und personalen Kompetenzforderung betrachtet: Merkmale des Unterrichts, der Familie und des Lernpotenzials der Schuler/-innen, kognitive und motivationale Mediationsprozesse, Lernaktivitaten der Schuler/-innen und Wirkungen des Unterrichts. Die Arbeit, in der erstmals systematisch und umfangreich die Forderung sozialer und personaler Kompetenzen uber unterschiedliche Ansatze in der Berufsbildung untersucht wird, liefert innovative Erkenntnisse fur die Unterrichtsforschung und -praxis wie beispielsweise Einflussmoglichkeiten auf die Motivation und das Interesse von Schuler(inne)n im Zusammenhang mit der sozialen und personalen Kompetenzforderung.
