Mit Schulleistungsbeurteilungen in Zeugnissen wird über den Zugang von Qualifikationen und damit meist auch über die sozialen Positionen einzelner Personen in unserer Gesellschaft entschieden. Von der Schule ausgestellte Zeugnisse sind der öffentlich anerkannte Leistungsstandard der Schüler und haben somit einen erheblichen Einfluss auf ihre weiteren Bildungswege. Doch was macht den Schulleistungserfolg aus? Inwieweit lässt sich der Schüler vom Lehrer beeinflussen und motivieren bestimmte Handlungen auszuführen? Diese Fragen spielen im Hinblick auf das Verhältnis zwischen Lehrer und Schüler eine besondere Rolle. So sollen die Schüler durch die Lehrer auf das Leben vorbereitet werden, müssen dafür viele neue Sachverhalte lernen und ihre Leistungen regelmäßig überprüfen lassen. Was sind aber nun die Beweggründe der Schüler zu Lernen und Leistungen zu erbringen? Welche Ursachen des Erfolgs oder Misserfolgs machen Schüler für ihre Resultate verantwortlich und wie wirken Ursachenzuschreibungen der Lehrer auf sie ein? Die Motivation wird dabei als ein maßgeblicher Faktor angesehen, die Schüler zu schulischen Leistungen zu bewegen. Welchen Einfluss dabei der Lehrer als extrinsischer Motivator auf die Leistungsmotivation des Schülers haben kann, ist demnach das - anhand von empirischen Erkenntnissen zu untersuchende - Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit. Zum besseren Verständnis der Thematik der vorliegenden Arbeit bedarf es im zweiten Kapitel zunächst einer kurzen Abgrenzung von Begrifflichkeiten.
