About the Book

This work aims to analyze the motivation of drug addicts in deciding to undertake a detoxification process. More precisely, the impact that the role of the nurse has on these people is analyzed. The analysis focuses more on understanding the role of the nursing figure in fostering awareness by drug addicts in detoxing and then later being able to reinforce the motivation for change.Purpose and objective: The purpose of this research is to be able to find if nurses favor the awareness, of the users, towards a change and therefore a detoxification. Evaluate later if the motivation is maintained and favored by this professional figure.
Methodology:
The development of the theoretical framework was carried out with the help of two models. The Trans-theoretical Model of DiClemente and Prochaska and the Self-Determination Theory. Thanks to these theories it was possible to analyze how a person decides to change their lifestyle and what motivates them.
Qualitative work was performed, accompanied by data collection, by carrying out 5 semi-structured interviews with users of Ingrade. The questions take up the concept of motivation, to understand if it was an intrinsic or extrinsic motivation and if there was a motivational reinforcement during their journey.
Results:
The data were initially divided into schemes, later they were analyzed using a hermeneutic phenomenological method. It emerges that the nurse does not have a significant impact in the awareness and decision-making, by drug addicts, in starting a detoxification. However, the usefulness of the nursing figure emerges during their journey, as a support, as an aid, with which the user can talk and express his problems.
Conclusions:
Motivation is essential to start any type of path. From the elements collected, the data show how the desire to get out of drug addiction is intrinsic and extrinsic.
It also shows how nurses are not the main figure in decision making and the way out of consumption. Instead, the educator is the primary figure who follows the path of the user in achieving his goal.

My research aims to investigate people with drug addiction problems and who want to start a detoxification process, deepening the theme of motivation that acts as a springboard towards a change that hopefully will last. The aim is to find out how nursing staff could foster this awareness of change and help maintain motivation over time to achieve the intended detox goals.
