El caso de Lear, protagonista de "La mosqueta", se torna inusual por las peculiaridades de "su" realidad particular. Su estado mental lo aprisiona cual serpiente cuyo cascabel resuena con melodías de The Beatles, a la vez que lo impulsa hacia un futuro impreciso.
La influencia de crecer bajo el influjo de las canciones del cuarteto de Liverpool lo indujo a admirarlos. Su curiosa naturaleza lo induce a conocer los mensajes contenidos en sus composiciones y diccionario en mano las fue traduciendo y le marcan el ritmo.
Ese asunto no es una excentricidad, y quizás tampoco lo sea otra de sus costumbres, llevar desde joven un diario íntimo. Ante sus treinta y cinco años de vida suman decenas de cuadernos manuscritos que atesora y conserva, pero sólo hasta el fin de esta novela.
Fuera de esos detalles y la incógnita de no saber nada sobre su padre, todo había resultado normal en la vida de Lear hasta dejar con Julia, su novia.
La soledad de sus noches de vigilia y esta circunstancia, despiertan en Lear dormidos genes heredados de su progenitor. Nuevos y extraños sucesos lo encierran en un mundo de interrogantes en el cual es difícil deducir bajo qué cubilete se encuentra su ya famosa realidad.
¿Está loco o lo que vive es real? ¿Bajo cual cubilete estará la bolilla? Como sea, algo, en la cabeza de Lear, no está funcionando bien, y tanto que llegará a evaluar asesinar a Julia.
Quizás la magia de los Beatles, extrañas alucinaciones, o mera buena fortuna, evita que la psicosis que lo afecta lo lleve a producir daños. Al contrario, esa suerte de ¿enfermedad? lo salvará, poniendo a su alcance un arma secreta para reconquistar su amor perdido.
Un nieto estrafalario llegará de la nada mediante un procedimiento novedoso que le permitirá a Lear conocer el futuro.¿Será esto posible? Quizás, pero de todos modos Lear sorteará los escollos y triunfará en la vida.
"La mosqueta" es un texto irreverente, con destellos de un humor irónico que envuelve a la ciudad de Montevideo en un entorno cuasi surrealista. La prosa es fluida y simple, de coloquial sabor rioplatense, que adquiere complejidad a medida que Lear, apremiado por el destino y quizás alimentado por su ¿dolencia?, desarrolla su personalidad.
"La mosqueta" narra aconteceres de la vida, y ésta rodea a Lear con su gran variedad de atributos. Se trata de una fantasía con toques de ciencia ficción, amor, sexo, humor y drama.
Es una novela diferente, amena, cuya lectura puede ser abordada a partir de adolescentes tardíos, abarcando un amplio espectro de lectores donde la edad y el nivel intelectual no son óbices para su disfrute.
¿Lecturas con cierto grado de aproximación? Pues, salvando distancias, algunas por estilo narrativo, otras por manejar elementos semejantes, todas por el mundo particular y la forma de razonar de sus protagonistas: "La conjura de los necios", "El guardián en el centeno", "Matadero cinco", "La senda del perdedor", "El infierno".
