Poemas paganos, zarcillos que beben del mito y la leyenda de los celtas, al filo de la espada.Para algunos autores Morrigan o Carrigan es la antecesora de las rubias valquirias, pero a diferencia de las diosas nórdicas suele ser representada con cabellos negros (como el plumaje del cuervo, animal psicopompos en el que se transforma) o rojo sangre (color de cabello muy favorecido por los antiguos celtas).Como muchas otras divinidades célticas Morrigan es una diosa ternaria, virgen, madre y anciana, con tres manifestaciones o diosas estrechamente relacionadas con ella y que dan nombre a los tres ambientes del libro: Badbh (el cuervo), Macha (la batalla o la hermosa, que para los celtas el caso era el mismo) y Nemain (la venenosa).El símbolo del cuervo, la corneja o incluso el buitre se explica por ser Morrigan una diosa guerrera y estas aves son psicopompos, o sea que guían a las almas de los muertos a las tierras del más allá, toda vez que los celtas creían en la vida después de la muerte y consideraban honroso morir en el campo de batalla. Una vez concluido el combate se permitía a las aves carroñeras que se alimentaran de los caídos antes de disponer de ellos, por medio de incineración, entierro o ambas cosas.El libro explora personajes de la Galia (Francia), celtas isleños (Irlanda) y celtíberos, de España, sobre todo de Galicia.En el primer ambiente, Badbh, se aborda a la diosa en su encarnación de cuervo, a personajes y episodios históricos como Brennus (invasor de Macedonia y Tesalia), la reina Boudica (se pronuncia "búdica"), el rey Brian Boru, la caída de la ciudad de Numancia y los druidas.También desfilan los dioses Samhain y Dagda, el héroe Cuchullain (se pronuncia cújulan, antes de que me albureen los pinches chilangos) así como el espino negro o endrino (blackberry), planta sagrada de la Morrigan.En este ambiente el lector puede encontrar poemas como Brian Boru, 23 de abril de 1014 (Batalla de Clontarf) donde la Morrigan o Banshee (en su versión cristianizada y por lo tanto satanizada) se le aparece al mítico rey en la figura de la lavandera del río, signo inequívoco de una muerte violenta e inminente según las creencias celtas: Al final los cascos de los caballos, empapados de sangre, brillaban como brasas.En vísperas de la feroz batallaBrian Boru, el alto rey de Irlandavio cómo la Bansheelavaba los ropajes de sus hombreshasta teñir de rojodel agua la ondulante superficie.El sol languidecía: mientras huían, Brodir y los suyosdieron con el anciano Brian Boruquien alzó su espada y sembró de gritoslos oscuros rincones de su tienda, antes de que la muerte lo encontrara.Macha (se pronuncia "maka" o "maja") es el segundo ambiente del poemario e incluye las figuras de tres grandes enemigos de Roma: el caudillo lusitano Viriato, el otro Brennus (invasor de Roma) y el gran Vercingetórix, además de las yeguas y caballos, animales relacionados con la diosa de la soberanía, Macha, y con otras diosas como Epona y Rhiannon.En este ambiente nos encontramos poemas como Vercingetórix, 46 a.C. (que casi le gana a Julio César, si no es por la indisciplina de los galos y que en un último acto heroico, se entregó como prisionero para salvar a su pueblo, sufriendo martirio por parte del populacho romano): Cargado de cadenasel pálido fantasma de un guerrerodesfila ante la odiosa muchedumbre, desfila ante la plebe socarronaaquél que un día, bravo, se enfrentaraa las voraces águilas de Roma.El tercer ambiente, Nemain, no menciona figuras históricas y se centra más que nada en efectos atmosféricos, estados de ánimo y sugestiones relacionadas con la diosa, como el siguiente: Bajo las tejas cubiertas de musgoacecho a los fantasmas que deambulansoñando con la niebla en la distancia.Elko Omar Vázquez Erosa
