Postmodernism, The New Historicism, Gender Studies (mit der verbleibenden Debatte um Feminismus) und Postcolonialism haben sich hierbei als die treibenden Kräfte etabliert. Innerhalb dieser vier Strömungen fällt der postkolonialen Debatte eine zentrale Rolle zu, auch wegen der literarischen Aktivität ihrer Autoren, zu der die islamische Gruppe gegenwärtig als aktivste zählt. Die enorme Vielfältigkeit postkolonialer Autoren hat ihren Ursprung (so wie die afrikanischer und jamaikanischer Schriftsteller) in der kolonialen Literatur englischer Autoren wie Daniel Defoe, Rudyard Kipling, Joseph Conrad, Alexander Durell oder Joyce Cary. Gemeinsam war diesen und anderen kolonialen Autoren eine Darstellung der europäischen Sichtweise im Schatten von Kolonialsierung, Imperialismus oder dem beginnenden Phänomen der Globalisierung (Childs/Williams 1997, 1-3; Walder 1998, 1-6; Erll/Nünning 2008; Erll/Rigney 2009). Said, Bhabha und Spivak, die als die drei herausragenden Vertreter des Postkolonialimus gelten müssen, haben jeder auf seine Art und Weise eine kritische Reflexion dieser kolonialen Schreibweise vorgelegt. Sie reichen von einer negativen Konstruktion des Orients (Said) über eine Transformation von Identität (Bhabha) hin zu einer konstruktivistisch feministisch/ marxistischen Sichtweise über Rasse, Geschlecht oder Klasse (Spivak).
About the Author: Matthias Dickert, geb. 1955, ist von Beruf Gymnasiallehrer (Englisch, Sport, katholische Religion). Studium an der Philipps Universität/Marburg und Durham University (GB). Forschungsschwerpunkt: Migrationssoziologie/ Islamische Autorinnen und Autoren im gegenwärtigen englischen Roman. Zahlreiche Veröffentlichungen (z.B. Blickpunkt der Forschung, Zeitschrift für Interdisziplinäre ökonomische Forschung, GRIN Verlag); Vorträge an europäischen Hochschulen. Doktorarbeit über das Thema Islam, Islamic Fundamentalism and the Question of Identity in Muslim Writing.
